Coronavirus “does not spread easily” through touching surfaces or objects, according to the updated guidelines of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Back in early March, the CDC has warned that passing the virus from contaminated surfaces “may be possible,” as reported by Fox News.

The agency’s revised guidelines now include a section on the different ways that the virus does not easily spread — including from touching surfaces or objects.

The CDC’s updated webpage clarified that there is still a possibility of infection when a person touches a contaminated object and then touches their face, but “this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”

The CDC also emphasized that “we are still learning more about this virus.”

The virus also does not easily spread between animals and people, according to the CDC.

There is also still no evidence suggesting that the virus can be spread through food or food packaging, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agency also stated that it was not necessary to disinfect or wipe down grocery items.

The CDC stressed that the main mode of transmission is from person to person — including from those who are not showing any symptoms.

Transmission mainly occurs when people are in close contact (or within 6 feet of each other) and someone infected talks, coughs, or sneezes, and causes droplets to land onto another person’s mouth or nose.

Marilyn Roberts, a microbiologist and professor at the University of Washington, told The Post, “The biggest issue is that people are picking up COVID-19 from other people. They’re not picking it up from surfaces.”
