WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA.) said that she will file an impeachment against President-elect Joe Biden the day after his inauguration.
  • Greene would likely refer to Biden’s Ukrainian dealings as grounds for impeachment.
  • Both Greene and Biden’s camp have not yet responded to a comment request.

Newly elected GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA.) announced on Wednesday that she will file articles of impeachment against President-elect Joe Biden on January 21, the day following the inauguration.

“On January 21st, I’m filing Articles of Impeachment on President-elect @JoeBiden… 75 million Americans are fed up with inaction.” Greene posted on her Twitter.

“It’s time to take a stand… I’m proud to be the voice of Republican voters who have been ignored,” she added.

The neophyte lawmaker did not reveal the grounds she would cite to impeach Biden. In a recent tweet, though, she shared a video clip where the former vice president discussed the removal of Ukraine’s prosecutor Viktor Shokin after he encouraged Ukraine officials to do so.

Greene’s effort is seen as something unusual as it was more assertive than other GOPs whose stand was to call off Trump’s second impeachment since it would cause more division in the country.

Her move would also be unlikely to get passed the Democrat-controlled House, notwithstanding the fact that 10 Republicans even voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment.

Greene, who believed that healthy Americans do not need to wear masks, pushed back against Democrats who accused her of being careless in mitigating the coronavirus in the Capitol as some of her fellow GOP members have recently contracted the virus.

Fox News has already sent an email request for comment to both Greene’s office and the President-elect’s transition team and has not yet responded as of this publication.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump was impeached by the House for a second time following last week’s Capitol siege. He is the only US leader who has faced impeachment twice. His case will be set on trial in the Senate.
