Rev. Jesse Jackson Arrested at Protest Over Blocked Voting Rights Bill [Video]

News reports claimed that Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. William Barber, alongside 20 protesters, were arrested by the police following a peaceful demonstration outside the US Capitol on Wednesday.
Jackson made an address during the protest, which was initiated by the Poor People’s Campaign. It was organized to voice out their opposition against the GOP lawmakers’ halting of voting rights bill, per local news outlet WTTG.
According to WTTG, Jackson and Barber led the marching crowd towards the Capitol. Moments later, they got arrested by law enforcement personnel for alleged ‘obstructing or gathering.’
It was unknown how long they were detained, as well as the fines they needed to pay.
The Religion Service reported that Jackson somehow expected that he would be arrested during the protest.
“We come not as an insurrection group, but as a resurrection group,” he said, adding that “today, we must fill up the jails.”
Meanwhile, speaking with CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday night, Barber shared what happened and emphasized the significance of voters’ rights.
“We need people to be able to vote freely and fairly. The people led us today, and they said since [Sen. Joseph] Manchin and [Sen. Mitch] McConnell wouldn’t answer them for a meeting … and they said we’re willing to put our bodies on the line. This is not optional. We cannot have voter suppression in this country.”
After not reaching the needed 60 votes in the Senate on Tuesday, the For the People Act was filibustered. Democrats have slammed Republicans for blocking the bill, arguing that going against the legislation was like removing people of their suffrage.
For the GOP, pushing for voting restrictions across the US will prevent election fraud and ensure its integrity. Experts, though, argued that such irregularity does not happen holistically. GOP leaders also noted that such a bill could interfere with local authority regarding election matters.
Before the voting, President Joe Biden urged Congress to approve the legislation.
“We can’t sit idly by while democracy is in peril – here, in America. We need to protect the sacred right to vote and ensure ‘We the People’ choose our leaders, the very foundation on which our democracy rests. We urgently need the For The People Act. Send it to my desk,” the president wrote on Twitter.

Why don’t the “Three Strikes You Are Out” rules apply to Jesse? He has been arrested for at least 50 felonies, including tax evasion and fraud??? He needs to be in prison for life without parole. End of Story! Just lock him up and be done with him.
