Clear Facts

  • Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer faced criticism on social media for a Father’s Day post that showcased his grilling skills, which was later deleted.
  • His post drew negative attention due to his apparent lack of grilling knowledge, as he was seen placing cheese on a raw beef patty.
  • The cooking mistake led to comparisons with other Democrats who have posted barbecue photos and subsequently lost their elections, raising questions about his ability to connect with his constituents’ everyday experiences.

On Father’s Day, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) posted a photo of himself grilling burgers and hot dogs in his daughter’s backyard. This marked a significant change from their usual apartment living.

Schumer, who seemed excited for this new experience, captioned the photo, “Our family has lived in an apartment building for all our years, but my daughter and her wife just bought a house with a backyard and for the first time we’re having a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill! Father’s Day Heaven!”

However, the post quickly sparked criticism when social media users pointed out a mistake in Schumer’s grilling technique. The photo showed Schumer putting cheese on a raw hamburger patty, a cooking blunder that drew widespread ridicule.

Once the photo became public, Schumer faced a torrent of criticism. The photo was compared to those of several other Democrats who’ve posted BBQ photos, only to later lose their elections. These include former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and North Carolina Senate candidate Cal Cunningham.

Critics included Donald Trump Jr., who stated, “I get that you’re playing to the masses but literally no one puts cheese on a raw beef patty. If you need help learning how to do basic grilling stuff let me know. Nice try relating though. “

Journalist Jordan Schachtel also criticized Schumer, questioning his relatability with his constituents. He wrote, “Chuck Schumer has been a politician for his entire life and has never held a real job. He also apparently has never used a grill. How can this man possibly relate to any of his constituents? He may as well be from a different planet.”

Even some of Schumer’s Senate colleagues joined in the criticism. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) commented, “Things I trust more than a Schumer burger: Epstein’s prison guards. The CIA. Gas station sushi.”

The scrutiny Schumer faced over his grilling error underscores the intense examination public figures face on social media, where even a seemingly innocent Father’s Day post can quickly become a PR disaster.

I like cheese on my steak tartare. Use really lean ground beef like 94/6. Yum.
