Senate Prepares for Trump’s Nominee Hearings Next Week

The GOP-controlled Senate is gearing up to begin confirmation hearings for several of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees for his second term in office. These hearings are set to kick off next week on Capitol Hill, with some expected to extend over multiple days. This is all in preparation for the upcoming Inauguration Day on January 20.
One of the first nominees to face the Senate is former Representative Doug Collins from Georgia, who has been nominated for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Collins is scheduled to appear before the Veterans’ Affairs Committee on Tuesday, January 14, at 9 a.m. ET.
In quick succession, Pete Hegseth, nominated for Secretary of Defense, will have his hearing with the Armed Service Committee on the same day at 9:30 a.m. ET. Meanwhile, Doug Burgum, the former Governor of North Dakota, is set to be evaluated by the Energy and National Resources Committee for the role of Secretary of Interior at 10 a.m. ET.
The following day, January 15, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem will testify before the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for the position of Homeland Security Secretary at 9 a.m. ET. Pam Bondi, nominated for U.S. Attorney General, will have her hearings spread over two days, starting at 9:30 a.m. ET on January 15 and continuing at 10:15 a.m. ET on January 16.
Chris Wright, the nominee for Secretary of Energy, will also appear before the Energy and National Resources Committee on January 15 at 10 a.m. ET. Additionally, former Representative Sean Duffy will face the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee for the role of Secretary of Transportation at the same time.
John Ratcliffe, former Director of National Intelligence, is slated for a hearing with the Senate Intelligence Committee for the position of CIA Director at 10 a.m. ET on January 15. On the same day, Marco Rubio, nominated for Secretary of State, will present himself to the Foreign Relations Committee.
Russell Vought is expected to return as the Office of Management and Budget Director, with his hearing scheduled for January 15 at 1 p.m. ET. On January 16, former Representative Lee Zeldin will appear before the Environment and Public Works Committee as the nominee for Administrator of the EPA.
Scott Turner, nominated for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will have his hearing on January 16 at 10 a.m. ET, followed by Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary nominee, who will testify before the Finance Committee at 10:30 a.m. ET.
While most nominees have their hearings scheduled, others, like Kash Patel for FBI Director and Robert F. Kennedy for Secretary of Health and Human Services, are still awaiting official dates. Notably, the confirmation hearing for former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, nominated for Director of National Intelligence, has been postponed due to delays from Senate Democrats.
