In a move that has raised eyebrows, Senator Joni Ernst, a leading figure in the Senate DOGE Caucus, is pressing Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo for answers on the accelerated spending of CHIPs and Science Act funds. The concern stems from Raimondo’s reported directive to expedite the allocation of these funds before the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.
“Your recent mandate to the Department of Commerce staff to work overtime–including weekends–spending billions of dollars in funding provided by the CHIPs and Science Act as quickly as possible before President-elect Trump takes office in January is extremely concerning,” Ernst expressed in her letter to Raimondo.
The CHIPs Act, a significant initiative under President Biden, aims to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing and related sectors. However, Ernst argues that the success of such an initiative requires meticulous planning and oversight, which she believes is lacking in Raimondo’s current approach.
Ernst’s letter further criticizes the hasty expenditure of taxpayer dollars, likening it to “binge buying shopping sprees by bureaucrats shoveling billions out the door before your term expires.” She emphasized the importance of oversight, especially given past instances of waste and fraud in government spending.
“This is not a time to let the CHIPs fall where they may,” Ernst remarked, referencing the mismanagement of COVID-19 response funds. She highlighted the urgency of addressing the nation’s debt, which stands at nearly $36 trillion.
Ernst humorously noted, “Black Friday might have come-and-gone, the Biden administration is on a spending spree, convinced every tax dollar must go.” She underscored the need for a shake-up in Washington, advocating for more prudent financial management.
With $25 billion of the $53 billion in CHIPs Act funds already committed, Ernst questioned the level of oversight for the remaining expenditures. She is seeking comprehensive information from Raimondo, including details on ongoing negotiations, project timelines, and coordination with the Trump transition team.
Raimondo, in her response to inquiries, stated, “You know, there’s a deadline, there’s a clear deadline with a change of administration. So, certainly, a deadline focuses the mind. But this was the plan we were on all along to complete this mission.”
As the transition looms, Ernst’s demands highlight the ongoing debate over fiscal responsibility and the role of government oversight in major spending initiatives.

Every damn one in the outgoing administration should be held accountable for reckless spending, as no doubts the billions approved doesn’t mean I has to be done or “Wasted” because youare being replaced!! Wonder if you would spend your own funds just because you have money left??
