Trump calls on GOP to stop opposing McCarthy’s Speaker bid

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump expressed his support for the Speakership bid of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
  • Trump said he warned the five GOP congressmen opposing McCarthy about the consequences.
  • Trump added that McCarthy “deserves the shot” for putting in hard work.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) has been struggling to get all the votes he needs for his Speakership bid. On Friday, former President Donald Trump showed his support for McCarthy, saying that the group opposing him is “playing a very dangerous game.”

Trump told Breitbart News on Friday, “Kevin has worked very hard. I think he deserves the shot. Hopefully, he’s going to be very strong and going to be very good and he’s going to do what everybody wants.”

The leadership vote is just about two weeks away, but McCarthy’s bid for Speaker is still opposed by five GOP members: Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), and Bob Good (R-Va.).

On Friday, McCarthy said that the five had not budged after ongoing discussions, but he believes that the group will ultimately stand down.

Trump told Breitbart that he’s “friendly with a lot of those people who are against Kevin,” and that he thinks all of them are “very much inclined” to support him. He added, “But I have to tell them, and I have told them, you’re playing a very dangerous game.”

Trump said that he has warned the group about their opposition’s potential consequences.

Trump cited previous leadership opposition from within the Republican Party in 2015 when former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) resigned and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) took over. He said, “Boehner wasn’t perfect—nobody’s perfect—but Paul Ryan was a disaster for the Republican Party.”

There were frequent clashes between Trump and Ryan during his administration, and Ryan continued to oppose the former president even after leaving Congress.

Last month, Ryan called himself a “never-again-Trumper,” and said that he believes Trump would lose in 2024.

give mccarthy a chance? if he pledges not to support the deep state cabals and be a political person of the people. you, mr president are too kind. you have had some real turds by your side. some you have picked then they stab you in the back. in dc, it might be inevitable, as they have no spine and no commitment. i think we need to rid ourselves of the romneys of the gop, all the rinos. congress, house and senate. mcconnel is the worst. also in states. look at the turds in az present and past. even if gop they stink. ga too. pa. i can go on and on. get gen berger on board. get this show on the road. we are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

If memory serves me correct, McCarthy and McConnell along with Pelosi were right up there blaming the Jan. 06th fiasco on Trump. At times Trump can be a real buffoon. Trump had the chance to go after Hilary Clinton, declined said she suffered enough? Meanwhile Clinton has been stabbing Trump in the back all along. it was Clinton that started the Trump and Russia collusion hoax. The FBI was in the pocket of Hillary. Trump needs to differentiate who his friends and enemies are. Last time around the Republicans didn’t think to kindly of McCarthy. Why should this time be any different? Republicans once they get into power have a habit of being all talk and no action. Republican voters won’t be too kind to Trump and his worthless trading cards at $99.00 a pop. What happens to all this money if Trump doesn’t run? Reads like a fleecing of Republican voters. Donate money to a billionaire? Bannon already stated he is going to jail for a trading card salesman. (more like a con-artist). Collect all 45 for $45,000 dollars and get to have dinner w/the ex- president.
For $45,000 dollars, I could think of a whole list of other people rather than Trump, that I would like to have dinner with.

Supporting McCarthy is supporting the Deep State. Trump doesn’t give any reasons why he wants McCarthy. I want Biggs – he’s demonstrated time and again he’s an America First representative. And like @ox says in this comment thread, sometimes Trump is completely off the mark. Way off. Tucker Carlson said Trump is horrible at hiring, which is a huge understatement! Trump keeps making these really bizarre choices. Trump did some great things for America and the World, and he’s arguably the best president since Lincoln. But blaming bad hires and on the Deep State as though there was nothing he could do, I don’t buy that. When Trump trotted out Operation Warp Speed for purely political purposes, he lost my support completely and proved there was something else going on. He was the President of the United States, our Commander in Chief, and he couldn’t find the resources to know that the entire COV!D hoax was an attack? What, someone forgot to tell him? He couldn’t figure out Fauci? Even all of us so-called “conspiracy theorists” (who are now once again proven correct) knew that within the first couple months of 2020, well before the ridiculous masks and lock-downs. Then after the stolen election in 2020, he STILL pushed for and took credit for the bioweapons renamed “vaccines”. WTF? If you think about it, how many Deep State criminals and traitors went to prison during Trump’s term? And now trading cards and $45,000 dinners? Hmm.

I think God is rightly annoyed with the route America is going. We are going AGAINST ALL OF OUR FAMILY VALUES and devaluing life. America is on a downhill trend that will destroy our country. We are tired of politics. Trump was so good for the country and our foreign policy. His EGO was too big and interfered with being presential—- real shame for all of us. Republicans must get rid of rhinos and start doing something for the country.

What a IDIOT ! To actually think that what he wants is so important to him that he can dictate who others can or can’t support only bring more proof to the FACT THAT HE DOES NOT BELONG IN ANY PART OF ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICE…
WHAT HE DID TO THE MIDTERMS MAKES IT EVIDENT THAT THAT WHAT HE WANTS IS NO LONGER NEAR AS RELEVANT AS HE THINS IT IS !!!
