Trump counters Fauci’s warning about reopening states too soon

• President Donald Trump expressed disapproval on Dr. Anthony Fauci’s concerns over reopening the country too soon.

• Fauci told the senate during the Tuesday hearing that the idea of having an available vaccine when schools reopen in the fall was “a bridge too far.”

• Trump appeals for schools to be also open as he calls for states to resume business as usual.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday opposed the concern of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, who warned that reopening the states too soon could trigger the outbreak. The president said that Fauci was “playing all sides of the equation.” 

“He wants to play all sides of the equation.” Trump told the media in the Oval Office as he was asked about Fauci’s senate testimony to the health committee a day earlier.  

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told the lawmakers during the Tuesday hearing that the idea of having an available vaccine or treatment for students when schools reopen in the fall was “a bridge too far.”

The director also raised concerns about reopening schools while there’s a mysterious COVID-19 related illness that took away lives of children. 

“I was surprised by his answer. To me it’s not an acceptable answer especially when it comes to schools,” Trump said. 

Trump told the press on Wednesday that schools are a significant part of the equation as he pushes to reopen the economy in soonest possible time.

“It’s had very little impact on young people, and I would strongly say they should open,” Trump said.

“It’s up to the governors, it’s the governors’ choice, but their state is not open if the schools aren’t open,” he added.
