Biden unveils new measures against ‘ghost guns’ [Video]

President Joe Biden announced on Monday that it will be illegal to sell so-called ghost guns or firearms with no serial license.
Law enforcement officials have been increasingly recovering such hard-to-trace firearms at crime scenes nationwide. Biden said that banning sales of such firearms is only “basic common sense.”
The president made these remarks during a speech in the Rose Garden, with gun violence victims in attendance.
Ghost guns are firearms often assembled with online-bought kits or stores that do not perform background checks. These firearms are almost impossible to trace or regulate since they do not contain serial numbers.
During his speech, Biden showed how a ghost gun can easily be assembled using a hand drill in as little as 30 minutes. He said, “It’s not hard to put together; anyone can order it in the mail: a felon, a terrorist, a domestic abuser.”
Law enforcement officials recovered approximately 20,000 suspected ghost guns in criminal investigations last year, which is a ten-fold increase from 2016, the White House reported.
Biden said that such guns are “weapons of choice for many criminals,” which is why it is important “to do everything we can to deprive them of that choice.”
The new measures will consider these kits as “firearms” that should be federally licensed like commercially made weapons, which are subject to background checks. These are just some of the measures planned by the Biden administration to deter gun crime.
Biden said, “The NRA called this rule extreme. Is it extreme to protect police officers? Is it extreme to protect our children? Extreme to keep guns out of the hands of people who couldn’t even pass a background check?”
During another Rose Garden speech last year, Biden had called the country’s gun violence epidemic “an international embarrassment” and directed the Justice Department to curb the spread of ghost guns.
Critics have since questioned the lack of urgency in tackling the issue, which the president attributed to regulators getting tied up in paperwork.
The president also announced his nomination of former federal prosecutor Steven Dettelbach as chief of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Activist groups questioned why the administration has not prioritized gun control. They also called for an independent office on gun violence prevention which would not need Senate confirmation.
March for Our Lives press secretary Noah Lumbantobing acknowledged the president’s announcement but argued that it should have been done much earlier.

The entire democratic party is clueless. The criminals don’t care what laws he puts on the books they get more guns robbing houses. That is why. The serial numbers are scraped off of them. It has nothing to do with ghost guns. Most of them are not even smart enough to read the directions. How to put them together. When are these dumb ass people going to open their eyes . I don’t own any ghost guns. But I will tell you if they come after mine they will have to take them from my dead hands. And what part of they are to make no laws against the 2nd dont these bastards don’t they understand

Have often wondered do people willingly go to his conferences or are they paid to listen to an idiot rant on subjects he knows nothing about. He should stick to subjects like has he paid off all his friends with our tax money yet or is he missing a few.

As “numbnuts Joe” said all it takes is a hand drill and anyone can build these “ghost guns”, is full of sh#t! You have to have more than a drill to build them and some knowledge as how they are assembled and how they work! Joe is a friggin Alzheimer’s demented moron that can’t even walk or know where he his half the time and he’s going to try to stop gun violence? How about the laws being enforced and keep these criminals locked up and in jail, instead of giving bail and released back to do more harm! Enforce the laws on the books and quit trying to legislate new laws that do nothing but waste time and our tax dollars, but this is what the Demoncrats do!
