  • Scott Fairlamb has received a 41-month prison sentence, the harshest sentence yet in relation to the U.S. Capitol riot.
  • Fairlamb pleaded guilty to two counts: obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting an officer.
  • Fairlamb is the first Capitol riot defendant to take a plea deal and the first one sentenced for a violent crime.

Scott Fairlamb from New Jersey has received a 41-month prison sentence on Wednesday for his involvement in the U.S. Capitol attack on January 6.

Fairlamb, who is reportedly the son of a New Jersey trooper and the brother of a Secret Service agent who served first lady Michelle Obama, received the harshest sentence so far in relation to the Capitol riot. Videos showed him assaulting law enforcement during the attack.

A federal prosecutor pointed out the importance of sending a clear message in this case to deter violent attacks in support of a political cause.

Prior to sentencing, Fairlamb tearfully asked the judge to “show some mercy.” He said that his “completely irresponsible, reckless behavior” had brought shame upon his family.

Judge Royce C. Lamberth stated that given Fairlamb’s behavior and actions on Jan. 6, he couldn’t go below the sentencing guidelines. He added that no jury would have recommended acquittal.

Still, Fairlamb pleaded guilty to two counts: obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting an officer. He was the first Capitol riot defendant to take a plea deal and the first defendant sentenced for a violent crime.

Fairlamb stated, “I take full responsibility,” and added that prosecutors had been “nothing but professional” from start to finish.

Fairlamb’s attorney, Harley Breite, stated that his client now has “a different ideology” than what he had on Jan. 6 and that he no longer believed that the election was stolen.

Breite added, “I think that he’s more aware of the divisiveness and the willingness of certain news outlets to serve and cater to an agenda rather than absolute truth,” referring to media that spread misinformation about the election.

Breite also stated that the government was “absolutely fair” to his client — a statement that contradicts previous claims from Trump allies that Jan. 6 defendants have been treated unfairly.

Over 650 defendants have been arrested for their involvement in the Capitol riot, with hundreds more still at large. Officials state that over two-thirds of the individuals who were caught on camera on Jan. 6 engaging in chargeable conduct still haven’t been arrested, including over 250 people who assaulted police.

So where is the charges and prison sentences for BLM and Antifa rioters that attacked and killed both police and citizens? Another example of two tiered justice system. Also some of the Jan 6 people have been held in jail for up to 11 months!

Stop whining over the lack of charges brought to BLM and Antifa. It is despicable that charges were not brought against these groups. But stick to the facts of this case. Otherwise you are advocating anarchy is ok for Jan 6. As a veteran and law abiding citizen, I am glad for this sentence and feel the prosecutor was correct in his analysis!

The fact is there seems to be a natural law in this USA along with State and Federal Laws about putting your hands on any one or striking anyone with an object. If this man was actually connected to the people that his article says he was he actually knew better, no ignorance of the law here in any way. I do feel sorry for those that believed the lies told to them with not one ounce of actual proof in any way. The real penalties should go to the actual person who started that lie. If it was not a lie exactly where s any proof of voter fraud which would have changed the election. Any one wo believes that the Republicans in the election process would stand by and say nothing should think again, in every election there are equal numbers of both major political parties actually working side by side in the election system. Arizona just spent almost $9 million Auditby out side Trebor and not one ounce of fraud in any way was actually found in any way.

Incorrect. And lots of fraud, which continues to grow; audit not completed.
