Vicky White, the Alabama corrections officer who fled with inmate Casey White, has passed away after the 10-day manhunt ended with the pair’s capture in Evansville, Indiana, the Vanderburgh County Coroners Office reported.

Lauderdale County Assistant Director of Corrections Vicky White, 56, and inmate Casey White, 38, fled the Lauderdale County Jail on April 29.

According to authorities, it was the officer’s last day before retirement when she willingly participated in the escape.

The pair, who are not related, ditched the police car they left in. They then got a Ford Edge and left that in Williamson County, Tennessee, about a two-hour drive north of Florence.

A tip then alerted authorities about a 2006 Ford F-150 believed to have been used by Casey White and Vicky White. The vehicle was left at a car wash on May 3, but police received the tip on Sunday.

The pair were next spotted at a hotel in Evansville, Indiana. Police started a car chase that ended in a wreck after only a few minutes.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding stated on Monday, “Can’t clarify how long they have been in Evansville … lucky we stumbled upon them today.”

Vicky White was driving the vehicle, but as authorities closed in, she shot herself. Casey White surrendered peacefully. He will be transferred back to Lauderdale County for his arraignment.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton stated during a press conference, “We got a dangerous man off the street today. He’s not getting out of this jail again. I assure you that.”

Casey White was convicted of two counts of first-degree kidnapping and attempted murder and sentenced to 75 years in prison in 2019. He also confessed to the fatal stabbing of Connie Ridgeway, 58, in her home in 2015. The trial for that case is scheduled for next month. Charged on two counts of capital murder, he could be facing the death penalty.

Vicky White was charged with permitting or facilitating escape, as well as forgery and identity theft for allegedly using an alias to buy the Ford Edge they used during their escape.

She was hospitalized at Deaconess Hospital for “very serious” injuries caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She then passed away on Monday evening. An autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday.

So many lonely people who do some pretty stupid things, from getting scammed out of money to end up laundering money, buying iPhones for their “soul” mate, helping the sick parents of the scammers And believing its all in the name of love ❤️ crazy. Vicki White must have been so lonely and willing to go against everything she knew and her training. So sad
