Harris would ‘proudly’ run with Biden again in 2024 [Video]

Vice President Kamala Harris seemed to be in campaign mode recently, said NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd. During an interview that was broadcast on Sunday, Todd asked Harris what her plans would be if President Joe Biden were to seek reelection in 2024.

Harris responded, “The president has been very clear that he intends to run again. And if he does, I will be running with him proudly.”

She added that she has been “very proud” to serve as vice president to Biden, with whom she has “a real friendship” that she cherishes.

Harris echoed Biden’s concerns about “threats to democracy” during the interview. Remembering 9/11 on its 21st anniversary, she stated how “our focus has shifted from foreign terror to the threat from within.”

The vice president called out the Supreme Court for being an “activist court” that took an established constitutional right away when they overturned Roe v. Wade. She also expressed concerns about how “election deniers” are running for key state positions that are responsible for keeping the integrity of the voting system.

Biden and his supporters have previously indicated plans for a reelection campaign if his health allows. Some Democrats, however, have dodged questions about whether they would still support Biden in 2024.

Apart from being the oldest president in U.S. history, Biden also faces low approval ratings. While easing inflation and a string of legislative victories recently increased his ratings, it still seems dismal.

If Biden were to run in 2024, he could possibly face a rematch with his 2020 rival, former President Donald Trump.

Trump has repeatedly talked about taking back the White House in 2024, but has yet to make a formal announcement. In the meantime, he has remained active in Republican politics by endorsing candidates in the midterm elections.

According to a Yahoo-News-YouGov poll released last week, a hypothetical rematch between Biden and Trump would result in a 6-point lead by Biden. About 48 percent of registered voters stated that they would vote for Biden while 42 percent would vote for Trump.

The same poll also found that the percentage of Democrats who want Biden to run in 2024 has outpaced those who are against it, compared to last month’s poll that showed a plurality of Democrats did not wish for Biden’s reelection. A separate USA Today-Ipsos poll last month also found that more than half (56%) of Democrats did want a second term for Biden.
