Lawmakers call out McCarthy for ignoring Santos’ lies

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was called out for refusing to call for the removal of Rep. George Santos.
  • McCarthy previously admitted that he “had a few questions” about the freshman’s resume.
  • Santos’ removal from office could cost McCarthy another lost vote in an already slim majority.

Several lawmakers are criticizing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for not calling for the removal of Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) despite admitting that he “had a few questions” about the freshman’s resume.

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) said that McCarthy’s actions only make him “complicit in concealing Mr. Santos’ lies in order to flip a seat in a win-at-all-costs effort to gain power.”

Santos, 34, flipped a Democrat-leaning district when he won his congressional seat in the midterms. Now, he faces federal and state investigations over his fabrications.

Among several other lies, Santos lied about graduating from Baruch College and New York University and working for major investment banks. He also falsely claimed to have Jewish roots and to have “lost four employees” in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting.

On Tuesday, Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) visited Santos’ Long Island district to urge the Federal Election Commission to investigate irregularities regarding Santos’ campaign financing.

Santos reportedly received significant donations from real estate magnate Andrew Intrater, the cousin of a Russian oligarch.

Torres stated, “There are serious questions (about how Santos) financed his illegitimate campaign for elected office that was built on a web of deception encompassing nearly every facet of his professional and personal life.”

He asked the FEC to look into a shady company called RedStone Strategies, which reportedly aided the Santos campaign despite being unregistered with authorities.

Torres declared, “The people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District deserve to be represented by someone who will serve them with honesty, transparency, and integrity.”

Santos claimed he loaned his campaign $700,000 but evaded questions about his financial source. He has been living at his sister’s home and was making $55,000 as a call center worker as recently as 2020.

Santos has already been disowned by Nassau County’s GOP leaders. Most of the GOP House members also called for his resignation.

Despite this, McCarthy steered clear from speaking on the matter and even insisted on going through with his plans to give Santos committee assignments.

McCarthy previously told CNN that he “always had a few questions about” Santos’ fabrication-filled resume. His admission prompted questions about why he and other Republican leaders supported Santos during and after his campaign.

Removing Santos would lead to a special election that could likely result in a Democrat win, costing McCarthy another lost vote in an already slim majority. The Speaker can only afford to lose four Republican votes to successfully pass bills. McCarthy made several major concessions to win his Speakership role after the vote failed for days.

If Santos didn’t have an ‘r’ behind his name, one could ‘almost’ conclude that he is a ‘d’ – after all he is just following in the footsteps of ‘notable’ liars from slick willy to lieawatha to slow joe himself. Apparently what is ‘normal’ operations for some folks is verboten for others…………….

NOTE: I am by no means condoning what he did anymore than what they have (and in many cases continue to) done. The double standard should be blatantly obvious.

If McCarthy gets Santos removed, he loses the House majority and the Democrats take over the house. As much as Santos is despicable, McCarthy needs him to keep his majority.

McCarthy needs to give Santos an office in a closet among the bathroom cleaning supplies. No one is going to work with this liar. The time will come, when, Santos will be replaced by another Republican, just be patient. 60% of the voters in Nassau county that voted for Santos, want Santos gone. Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe is a pathological liar, and isn’t justification for Santos to lie, it doesn’t make it right. Eventually the voters should figure out that the Republicans can be just as (FOS) as the Democrats. It’s just a matter of which party’s B.S. one is willing to believe.
