MSNBC Issues Apology Over Analyst Comment Fallout
Clear Facts
- MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler condemned on X the “unacceptable” remarks made by political analyst Matthew Dowd during coverage of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
- The statement, posted publicly, was not read aloud on MSNBC broadcasts as of Wednesday evening.
- Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed while speaking with students at Utah Valley University.
Rebecca Kutler addressed viewer outrage by posting an official apology on X over Dowd’s comments but the network did not share this statement on its live programming.
Dowd claimed Kirk’s rhetoric played a role in making him a target, sparking immediate backlash from conservatives who demanded a formal apology.
Statement from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler: “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in…

During a segment, Dowd referred to Kirk as “one of the most divisive” figures and stated he was “constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups.”
“And I always go back to: hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,” Dowd said. “And I think that’s the environment we’re in. People just, you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place.”
Kirk was speaking with students moments before the shooting, engaging in a political debate at the Utah campus.
Utah Valley University officials stated the gunshot originated from a building 200 yards away, and Kirk was hospitalized in stable condition before he passed from his injuries.
Kirk is survived by his wife Erika and their two children, leaving a void in the conservative advocacy community.

There is no apology that can make those disgusting, abhorrent comments go away, or be anywhere close to accurate! He needs to be fired! There is no middle ground for comments like that when a man was assassinated for promoting civil dialogue and you call it hate speech!
He is an absolutely disgusting, disgrace of a human being, and I use the term human being lightly!

Chris as I understand it based on other reports he HAS been fired. An assistant dean from MTSU who made even worse comments has also been fired. Another ‘pundit’ was merely suspended and told to go dark on social media for his nasty comments as well. Let’s hope that these actions are just the tip of the iceberg for these nasty ‘people’ but I suspect not enough hiring authorities have the guts to even condemn those type of comment, much less take any punitive actions.

Why can’t these so-called “journalists” keep their bias out of the news, and just report the facts?
Shouldn’t they be told something to this effect before shoving their foot into their mouth??
