Omaha police thwart possible mass shooting inside Target [Video]

Nebraska police on Tuesday narrowly avoided a possible massacre after shooting and killing a man armed with an AR-15-style rifle in a Target store in Omaha. Authorities said the suspect began firing off rounds of ammunition inside the store before he was fatally shot.
There were no reported injuries among employees and shoppers at the Omaha store, according to the police.
The Omaha Police Department said police officers responded after receiving multiple reports of an active shooter at the Target store in west Omaha around 12 p.m. local time.
“The first arriving officers went into the building, confronted the suspect and shot him dead,” Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer told reporters in a Tuesday press briefing.
The unidentified suspect was described as a white man estimated to be in his 30s. The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schmaderer said the suspect entered the department store carrying the gun and “plenty of ammunition” and began firing off rounds. Officers arrived at the scene minutes after receiving more than two dozen 911 calls for an active shooter at the store. Police found multiple shell casings at the scene.
The Omaha Police Department said the shooter had 13 loaded magazines.
It is not clear if the suspect was firing at anybody or what the motive was, Schmaderer said.
He added that no civilian was injured after police conducted several sweeps of the store. A Target spokesperson confirmed in a statement that all shoppers and employees had “safely evacuated the store.”
Omaha police thanked “brave” Target employees who helped shoppers make it out of the store safely. Target workers recently underwent active shooter training.
A Target spokesperson said the store will be closed temporarily until further notice.
“We are partnering with the Omaha PD as we learn more,” the spokesperson added.

It was six minutes from the first report of gunshots until police arrived.
The gunman was confronted by two police officers and
shot by one of them when he refused to put the rifle down.
This according to the local news reports following Chief Schmaderer’s
statements.

I went to the target in Menifee, CA on Tuesday and the store was not open. There were huge signs in front of the doors saying, “this store is temporarily closed until further notice”. Now I’m wondering if there were many targets that had threats of violence on that same Tuesday.

Police are in double jeoprady, damned when they do and damned if they don’t, surprised there isn’t a major investigation in this matter with suspensions and charges; the dead guy must be WHITE
