Pompeo takes aim at Trump, McConnell reelected as GOP Senate leader

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Mike Pompeo took aim at Trump on Wednesday, tweeting “we need more seriousness, less noise” leaders.
  • There is a growing number of prominent Republicans who are breaking away from the former president.
  • Trump-backed Sen. Rick Scott lost to Sen. Mitch McConnell on Wednesday night’s vote for Senate GOP leader.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday said the Republican Party needs a leader who doesn’t claim “victimhood.” This is an apparent dig at former President Donald Trump, who repeatedly referred to himself as a “victim” during the announcement of his 2024 presidential run.

“We need more seriousness, less noise, and leaders who are looking forward, not staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter.

Though Pompeo didn’t mention the former president by name, his Twitter post came hours after Trump’s speech.

“I’m a victim, I will tell you. I’m a victim,” Trump said on Tuesday.

Pompeo is among a growing number of prominent GOP figures who are rumored to have their own 2024 ambitions. Like former Vice President Mike Pence, Pompeo is calling for a different GOP nominee in the next presidential election.

Trump made the much-anticipated announcement that he would make a third run for the White House just a week after the Republican Party’s disappointing midterm results after the GOP’s hope for a “red wave” failed to materialize.

The Republicans took back the House with a slim majority. The underwhelming results have set off a blame game within the GOP, with some members pointing to Trump-backed candidates as a key factor.

The Democrats were able to retain control of the U.S. Senate.

On Wednesday, GOP senators voted to keep Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as their caucus leader. McConnell, who fended off a challenge from Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) set himself up to become the longest-serving party leader in the history of the Senate.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and several other GOP senators had called for the vote to be postponed until after the Dec. 6 Georgia Senate runoff but the motion failed. Cruz said McConnell got 37 votes against Scott’s 10 votes. One senator abstained.

“I’m not going anywhere,” McConnell said, responding to a reporter who asked if he would consider stepping aside.

Scott on Tuesday announced his candidacy for Republican leader, telling his fellow GOP senators: “If you simply want to stick with the status quo, don’t vote for me.”

The new Congress will start on Jan. 3. The Georgia runoff on Dec. 6 will decide whether the Senate remains 50-50 evenly split, or whether the Democratic Party will have a 51-49 majority.

Less victimhood? That is the Democrat party mantra. Trump is just telling the truth. He was attacked and falsely investigated for 4 years. If he doesn’t go on the attack early it will happen again. Although his speech on the 15th was more toned down and more Presidential.

well, the best thing about that post was that you committed redundancy with the word; “unfortunately”. you left cryptic dates for Trump’s executive orders without bothering to., at least, give us a clue as to what they are. (it is extremely lazy and rude to make people research your statements) and you made an idiotic statement that it is unfortunate that Trump is a businessman and not a politician. (!!) If you want your voice to be heard in political discussions in the 21st century, I would suggest you let yourself evolve by gleaning enough information to keep up with the big dogs. until then, please stay on the porch.

Yeah, these trolls like Pence and Pompeo need to be exposed for what they are, nothing but fools. Trump will win, because he is the only one who can get to the bottom of it all. Trump was the best president our country ever had, Biden and Obama are clearly the worst! Now it is time to go after these criminals.

I agree with each of these great comments. I stand with Trump. Pence and Pompeo want a 2024 run at it? They won’t win. I’m tired of all Trump has to be hired with CONSTANTLY, from Dems and now some GOP, too. I was hoping Pompeo would want to be in the Cabinet, but he wants it all now. That Trump holds it together shows his strength and fortitude. There was massive fraud in 2020 and everyone wanted to just demonize Trump for it. If they’d gone after strongly to dig out the fraud scams, they could have done it, as a strong party. UT many wanted their heads in the sand and whimper NO, NO, CAN’T BE TRUE. Well it was, and it never got eradicated. If abuse of any kind, at home or in politics, is allowed to stand, it grows, as it has. The Midterms had even more states involved, and 2020 had more than the swing states involved already, like Minnesota. Now Dems are trying to get that awful voting system, ranked voting, in. Now they’re targeting NV, and surely others that haven’t been talked about yet. As Trump said, it’s a system to permanently elect one party, the Dems now.

I cannot believe they put McConnell back in. Yes, he helped with Supreme Court, but two were centrists anyway. Cruz and others wanted the vote delayed till after 12/6 run-off, to muster more support for an alternative. I had hoped it would have been one even stronger than Scott, but McConnell??? He is most likel6the reason we don’t ha e a Senate majority right now, if we’d captured AZ, Alaska, NV, GA we would now have both the House and Senate. Schumer and McConnell have formed a buddy thing, and Mitch has been in RHINO territory for a while. He pulled GOP donation funds from AZ Masters.. ..100%. He pulled it from Bouldoc, NH, when he probably could have won, especially before McConnell unbelievably ran ads AGAINST HIM. He didn’t help the great NV candidate, who had to contend with fraud there plus little funds. McConnell took funds from AZ Masters and gave them to ONE OF THE ALASKA GOP candidates. Murkowski!! Unbelievable. Definitely a RHINO, but he knew she’d vote for HIM, which she did.

The Speaker of the House is definitely the aim of McCarthy, who said a couple weeks ago he would NOT BE IN FAVOR of bringing some things up for a vote, like actions against Dems that need investigating, and punishment because, he stated, “IT WOD BE PETTY”. Perhaps he wants kumbiya moments, but I believe non Deep Staters want the necrotic demons out, because they are certainly there. That is NOT A PETTY ACTION; it’s NEEDED.

just stop! the Trump train is up and running strong, as long as MAGA folks understand that we are in a war for the very future of mankind, MAGA can only grow to be the MAJOR force in American politics by 2024. we are going to have feces thrown at us daily until then. all the crap we have taken from the DNC and it’s flying monkeys will be returned ten fold in the form of righteous justice.
as for mr. pomeyo; really nice job of killing your political career before it even got off the ground. you had a future with MAGA. but you chose establishment trough slurping instead. byeeeeeee!

Is there any politician who can do all of what Trump promised to do if elected in 2024? NONE !!!! Unfortunately.
Trump, I sincerely believe, wants to save our country from all the fools that do not care about the working class, the middle class, and those in the lower runk of the populace. Democrats, and the McCain/Romney Club of Rinos [ and we aren’t stupid— we, the people know all of them] are there to line up their pockets, all greedy for money ! They have not done zilch for the people, except needlessly throw away our tax-monies to the wind. Or even skim some from the surface andre-route it to their “favorite agendas”. Let’s tell the truth! We are all victimized by the inefficiency of this
    Administration!!!
And not just Mr. Trump… so if he says he was a victim…. yes, he was, including you and me, our families and good people who still believe the U.S.A. could still rise from the ashes that career politicians have thrown her in. Constitutionalists we all should be, abiding by the virtues , morals, Life, Liberty, Religious Freedom, and pursuit of happiness that our Constitution guarantees everybody, not just the elites. Our government is for the people and by the people…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
