WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:

  • Various illegal videos got exposed on Pornhub leading to Mastercard and Visa to stop all their services on the platform immediately.
  • Recordings are available on the New York Times publication by columnist Nicholas Kristof which included despicable acts against unconscious females including underaged girls.
  • Pornhub vows to do better against illegal content by bringing on more moderators as well as new upload restrictions.

Following the discovery of several rapes and child abuse videos, Mastercard and Visa have decided to revoke their services to the pornographic website Pornhub.

The report came from the New York Times, where it revealed that Pornhub hosted videos containing revenge porn, rape scenes, and even more videos where participants were unknowingly or forcibly filmed.

In the publication by Nicholas Kristof, it included recordings of assaults ranging from underage girls to unconscious women.

Mastercard led an investigation then confirmed that the website had the “presence of illegal material.”

Mastercard added in their statement, “As a result, and in accordance with our policies, we instructed the financial institutions that connect the site to our network to terminate acceptance. In addition, we continue to investigate potential illegal content on other websites to take the appropriate action.”

Visa also released a statement “instructing the financial institutions who serve MindGeek (Pornhub’s Owner) to suspend processing of payments through the Visa network.”

On Tuesday, Pornhub promised to do their investigation and be more vigilant on illegal material. Additionally, they stated they would bring about new restrictions on who can upload videos and more content moderators. These moderators will be in charge of searching for potentially illegal content on the platform.

Pornhub also stated that the actions from Mastercard and Visa are “exceptionally disappointing”. They added, “This news is crushing for the hundreds of thousands of models who rely on our platform for their livelihoods.”
