WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Donald Trump declared that he already beat the coronavirus and passed the “highest standards” of medical judgment.
  • Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Conley, said on Saturday that Trump is no longer a risk to non-COVID individuals and has “decreasing viral loads” of the virus in his body.
  • The president is expected to return back to the campaign trail this week.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump said that he may have the “protective glow” against coronavirus but it is still not clear if he tested negative for the disease.

During his exclusive interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, Trump claimed that he “beat” the virus as he passed the “highest standards” of testing. After taking a steroid, he shared that he already stopped taking any treatment.

“It looks like I’m immune for, I don’t know, maybe a long time, maybe a short time. It could be a lifetime. Nobody really knows, but I’m immune. So the president is in very good shape to fight the battles,” Trump said.

In a letter issued on Saturday, the president’s doctor said that he is no longer a threat of transmitting the virus and can already carefully mingle with other people.

“Now at day 10 from symptom onset, fever-free for well over 24 hours and all symptoms improved, the assortment of advanced diagnostic tests obtained reveal there is no longer evidence of actively replicating virus,” Dr. Sean Conley said in a memo. “Moving forward, I will continue to monitor him clinically as he returns to an active schedule.”

Conley also shared that Trump has “decreasing viral loads,” which simply means that the virus level in his body is continuously declining.

Conley did not provide any details, though, regarding Trump’s negative test results for the virus. Earlier this month, the physician admitted that he was portraying a “healthy” Trump to the public.

His letter did not also mention anything about Trump’s treatment guidance.

Trump’s medication included dexamethasone, a strong steroid used for severe cases of COVID-19, alongside an antibody cocktail developed by Regeneron pharmaceuticals. His medical team also noted that he was given supplemental oxygen twice after experiencing symptoms.

In its guidelines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that those who contracted the virus should do self-quarantine for at least 10 days, starting from the first day of showing symptoms. Those with more severe cases would need to quarantine until 20 days. Trump first reported having symptoms 10 days ago.

The president is expected to return to the campaign trail on Monday for a rally in Florida, followed by a trip to Pennsylvania and Iowa later this week. Last Saturday at the White House, he hosted his first public event since his COVID diagnosis.

According to the Associated Press report, reinfection from COVID-19 is unlikely for at least three months after contracting it. But after a man from Hongkong was found to be infected with the virus for a second time, it is believed that immunity could be shortlived for some people.
