  • Tyler Robinson, 22, is suspected in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and is currently held without bail.
  • Robinson faces aggravated murder and other felony charges and is expected to be formally charged on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
  • Utah residents describe Robinson as quiet and reserved, with no prior criminal record.

Tyler Robinson, age 22, is being held in custody after his arrest on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice related to the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk.

A judge has ordered Robinson to remain in jail without bail as the Utah County Attorney’s Office plans to formally charge him on Tuesday, September 16.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Robinson is accused in the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. State prosecutors are weighing additional federal charges as well.

“I know for some people when their identities come out, and they’re labeled as a shooter, everyone’s like, ‘You could tell.’ And he’s not one of those people,” said Jaida Funk, a neighbor of Robinson.

Residents in Robinson’s Utah neighborhood described him as quiet, often keeping to himself, and having a family not unlike others in their community.

Robert Sylvester, who has lived on the same street as Robinson’s family for six years, said he last saw Robinson while helping fix a neighbor’s leaky pipe. He commented that the family is “pretty quiet” and the suspect’s father stays busy as a contractor.

Utah State University verified Robinson attended for one semester in 2021. He is currently a third-year student at Dixie Technical College in an electrical apprenticeship program.

Store worker Durban Mickelson said Robinson frequently bought supplies but “wouldn’t really talk to you unless you said something to him. Just always very quiet, kept to himself.”

There are no state or federal court records of prior criminal cases involving Robinson.

Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, delivered an emotional statement on Friday, vowing her late husband’s mission to advance conservative values will continue.

“To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die,” Erika Kirk said.

“It won’t. I refuse to let that happen… No one will ever forget my husband’s name. And I will make sure of it. It will become stronger, bolder, louder and greater than ever. My husband’s mission will not end. Not even for a moment,” she continued. “My husband’s voice will remain, and it will ring out louder and more clearly than ever. And his wisdom will endure.”

The case continues to draw national attention as preparations for formal charges move forward.

Tragedy at best, but glad this didn’t happen in Chicago. Free on bail by now.
