China fires missiles around Taiwan after Pelosi visit [Video]

China fired multiple missiles around Taiwan on Thursday, launching unprecedented military drills a day after a visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The exercises are China’s largest ever in the Taiwan Strait. It began as scheduled at midday and included live-firing in the waters to the north, south and east of Taiwan. The exercises will run until noon on Sunday.
Taiwan’s defense ministry said 11 Chinese Dongfeng ballistic missiles had been fired in waters around the island. The last time China fired missiles into waters around Taiwan was in 1996.
Taiwan officials condemned the drills, saying they violate United Nations rules, invade its territorial space and are a direct challenge to free air and sea navigation.
Before Thursday’s drills officially began, Chinese navy ships and military aircraft briefly crossed the Taiwan Strait median line several times in the morning ahead of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
By midday, warships from both sides remained in the area and in close proximity, and Taiwan scrambled jets and deployed missile systems to track multiple Chinese aircraft crossing the line.
“They flew in and then flew out, again and again. They continue to harass us,” the Taiwanese source said.
China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory and reserves the right to take it by force, said on Thursday its differences with the self-ruled island are an internal affair.
“Our punishment of pro-Taiwan independence diehards, external forces is reasonable, lawful,” China’s Beijing-based Taiwan Affairs Office said.
In Taiwan, life was largely normal, despite worries that Beijing could take the unprecedented step of firing a missile over the main island. Taiwan residents are long accustomed to Beijing’s threats.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan a “manic, irresponsible and highly irrational” act by the United States, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Pelosi, the highest-level U.S. visitor to Taiwan in 25 years, praised its democracy and pledged American solidarity during her brief stopover, adding that Chinese anger could not stop world leaders from travelling there.
China summoned the U.S. ambassador in Beijing in protest against her visit and halted several agricultural imports from Taiwan.
“Our delegation came to Taiwan to make unequivocally clear that we will not abandon Taiwan,” Pelosi told Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen. “Now, more than ever, America’s solidarity with Taiwan is crucial, and that’s the message we are bringing here today.”
The United States and the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven nations warned China against using Pelosi’s visit as a pretext for military action against Taiwan.
The United States has no official diplomatic relations with Taiwan but is bound by American law to provide it with the means to defend itself.

I am 82 years old & born on the day Roosevelt was elected President. I have watched Presidents come & go & can state this fact: our country has never been in the shape it is today primarily because the corruption within our leaders has gone unchecked for too long. Much of which never came to light?? If you go back & research what happened with Nixon & Ford, Pelosi is being prepped to possibly become Biden’s replacement without a vote ever being cast?? If Biden resigns due to illness or incapacity , Kamala can be bought off by the DNC & Pelosi is next in line according to our Constitution to take over this country!!! Frightening thought but it has happened before!!! Any American citizen that does not exercise their vote in 2022 & 2024 will be guilty of ignoring their right to Freedom and jeopardizing that same right for responsible citizens like me who goes to the voting place & casts only 1 vote after being properly registered according to present rules in place. Wake up folks or those corrupt in power on both sides of the aisle will be mandating everything you do in your daily living!! I plan to exercise my right at the voting booth!!!!

China has been making threats and having military activity when Taiwan was Formosa when we docked there in the 50s they had been firing artillery on some of the islands around there. They make lot of noise but are to be considered dangerous and unpredictable, to have problems from this Polosie visit is stupid as she is but she also is capable of doing very dumb things, she needs to get all attention away from her families actions, so look out world. Should have finished them off during the Korean 1950’s, but thats hind site.

First of all, I hate Pelops I and almost everything that she does. I think this was mostly grandstanding and getting attention for her.
But I think that this was one thing she did right. We have every right to send any politician to Taiwan anytime that we want. I am sick of our government cowing down to communist dictators that think they can tell us what to do. China and Russia only respect power! If we don’t stand up to them, they will run the world and we will be their puppets.

What a meaningless trip was this. China will take Taiwan before the November elections and USA will do shit about it. Lip service and some economical sanctions just enough to save face and then all will be forgotten as is Libya, Afghanistan and so many other countries USA got involve with
