In a significant move towards bipartisan cooperation, Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz of Florida has made headlines by joining the House DOGE caucus. This development marks the first time a Democrat has joined the caucus, which was previously composed solely of Republicans.
The formation of the DOGE caucus came after President-elect Donald Trump introduced the new Department of Government Efficiency. This department is set to be spearheaded by notable figures such as former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamay and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk.
Moskowitz’s decision to join this caucus stems from his belief that enhancing government efficiency transcends party lines.
“Today, I will join the Congressional DOGE Caucus, because I believe that streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue,” Moskowitz stated. He emphasized the need for reorganizing government structures to better serve the American populace.
A key focus for Moskowitz is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its extensive network of agencies, including FEMA and the Secret Service.
“Specifically, the Department of Homeland Security, while very necessary, has gotten too big,” he noted. Moskowitz advocates for the independence of these agencies, suggesting they should report directly to the White House.
Recent controversies have put both FEMA and the Secret Service in the spotlight. The Secret Service faced bipartisan criticism after an assassination attempt on Trump in July, while FEMA was scrutinized in November for allegedly instructing employees to bypass homes with pro-Trump displays during Hurricane Milton relief efforts.
“It is not practical to have 22 agencies under this one department,” Moskowitz argued. He expressed eagerness to collaborate across party lines to achieve this restructuring, aiming to remove FEMA and the Secret Service from the DHS umbrella.

Moskowitz is not alone in his party. Here’s hoping the Trump mandate will bring more common sense Dems out of hiding.
It’s not that long ago that three GOP terms were followed by Slick Willy’s experiment with fiscal responsibility. Losing so many elections they expected to win should be a reality check for all endangered Dems.
