  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ operation of flying migrants from San Antonio, Texas to Martha’s Vineyard has become well known across the country.
  • While the stunt was applauded by several Republicans, it reportedly annoyed Texas Republicans, including aides to Gov. Greg Abbott.
  • Abbott’s office was reportedly uninformed about the flight ahead of time.

The operation that flew migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard reportedly annoyed not just Democrats but also Texas Republicans, including members of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.

Abbott and fellow Republican governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Doug Ducey of Arizona have been transporting migrants to Democrat-led cities to put a spotlight on the border crisis.

According to The New York Times, DeSantis’ flight operation was reportedly made unknown to anyone in Abbott’s office, despite the migrants hailing from San Antonio, Texas.

Abbott has not publicly called out DeSantis but instead praised the stunt, which is arguably inspired by his own relocation program. Abbott has been bussing thousands of migrants to liberal areas. Some migrants were even dropped off near Vice President Kamala Harris’ home in Washington, D.C. But it was DeSantis who reaped the most publicity with his migrant flight operation.

There could be a muted rivalry between the two governors, who are both conservative leaders in megastates and are also both seeking reelection.

Still, many believe DeSantis to be eyeing a much higher office. Several Republicans have increasingly turned to DeSantis for a 2024 presidential run after previously backing former President Donald Trump. Recent polls even show Florida and Texas GOP voters opting for DeSantis over Trump.

A federal class action lawsuit has been filed against DeSantis last week, with migrants claiming that they were fed lies about the opportunities awaiting them in Martha’s Vineyard. The lawsuit claimed that DeSantis’ operation was a “premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme.”
