  • Jeremy Goodale has not yet disclosed if his cooperation is part of a plea deal or not.
  • The pair, who were 16 at the time of the killing, are accused of ambushing the Fairfield High School teacher in Chautauqua Park, where she was known to take daily walks, and beating her to death with a baseball bat. They are being tried as adults.

On Wednesday, it was revealed in court that one of the two Iowa teenagers charged with the murder of their Spanish teacher in 2021 has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. Jeremy Goodale will testify against his former friend, Willard Miller, although it remains unclear if this arrangement is part of a plea deal.

The Des Moines Register reported the news, and the announcement was made by Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding during a hearing in which Miller’s lawyers argued that evidence against the pair should be suppressed because their constitutional rights had been violated.

The classmates, who are both now 17, are accused of murdering teacher Nohema Graber, 66, on November 2, 2021, after Miller had a meeting with her over a poor grade he received in her class, according to prosecutors.

Graber had taught at Fairfield High School, which is located about 100 miles southeast of Des Moines, since 2012. The pair are being tried as adults, despite being 16 at the time of the killing, and are accused of ambushing Graber in Chautauqua Park, where she used to take daily walks.

Court papers allege that the teenagers dragged her into the woods and beat her to death with a baseball bat. Her body was found the next day hidden under a tarp, a wheelbarrow, and railroad ties.

During the hearing, Moulding announced that Miller’s lawyers should no longer make assertions on behalf of Goodale, who has turned state’s evidence and is listed as a witness against Miller.

Miller has a pending appeal before the Iowa Supreme Court on the denial of a previous motion to suppress evidence on similar grounds. He is scheduled to go to trial on April 21 in Pottawattamie County, and Goodale is set to go to trial in May.
