WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • LeBron James on Monday shared a letter urging President Joe Biden to bring WNBA player Brittney Griner home from Russia.
  • Griner has been detained in Russia since February after an arrest on drug charges.
  • In the letter, James said Griner faced “inhumane conditions” in jail and had been “denied communications with her family and loved ones.”

NBA superstar LeBron James has urged President Joe Biden to get WNBA star Brittney Griner home safely from Russia. Griner has been detained in a Russian prison for more than 100 days after being arrested at a Moscow airport for drug charges.

“We need to come together and help do whatever we possibly can to bring BG home quickly and safely!! Our voice as athletes is stronger together,” the Los Angeles Lakers’ shooting guard tweeted Sunday night.

James also shared a letter indicating that Griner faced “inhumane conditions in a Russian prison” and had been “denied communications with her family and loved ones” in the same Twitter post.

“As a decorated Olympian and member of an elite global sport community, BG’s detention must be resolved out of respect for the sanctity of all sport and for all Americans traveling internationally. It is imperative that the US Government immediately address this human rights issue and do whatever is necessary to return Brittney home,” the letter continued.

“Join us in demanding that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris bring Brittney home swiftly and safely by taking action today,” the letter concluded, alongside a link to a Change.org petition that has garnered over 300,000 signatures calling for Griner’s safe return.

The WNBA player was arrested on February 17 at a Moscow airport after customs agents said they found cannabis oil in her luggage. Griner went to Russia to compete for the European powerhouse club UMMC Ekaterinburg, which she has been doing for the past eight years.

In May, the US State Department officially classified Griner as “wrongfully detained.” According to an expert, this is a “strong signal that the US government does not believe that there is a legitimate case against her.”

Not if it means trading for convicted mass murderer! Russia wants their mass murderer the butcher released from our prison, wants to trade for this POS that committed a crime in another country, I say no as once released how many more will be butchered by him? How many lives do you want to sacrifice just to bring home 1 baseball player? Forget it.

Quote: “…BG’s detention must be resolved out of respect for the sanctity of all sport…” What???? Sanctity of all sport when that sport bows down to genocide? When the NBA breaks with Red China, come back and we can discuss it.
