Trump to remain on Truth Social despite Twitter reinstatement

New Twitter CEO Elon Musk followed through with his word that he would reinstate former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account once he took over the social media platform. But Trump also maintained his stance that he would remain on his own platform instead of returning to Twitter.

Trump has been using Truth Social as his main platform since he received a lifetime ban from Twitter following the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021. He was banned over allegations that he was using the platform to incite violence.

Following his Twitter reinstatement, he posted on Truth on Saturday afternoon, “Vote now with positivity, but don’t worry, we aren’t going anywhere. Truth Social is special!”

This weekend, Musk opened a poll on Twitter asking users whether to reinstate Trump’s account. Out of over 15 million votes, nearly 52 percent of users supported the former president’s return to the platform.

Musk said that the poll was seen by over 134 million people. 

After the poll ended, Musk wrote, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.” The Latin phrase meant, “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”

Since Musk’s Twitter takeover, several accounts have been restored, including the satirical account Babylon Bee, Kathy Griffin, and Jordan Peterson.

In a later tweet, Musk considered conducting more polls to measure support for future actions. He also thought of adding a feature that allows polling all active users in a country.

Following Musk’s poll, Trump’s Twitter handle, @realDonaldTrump, was reactivated. Other Twitter users have been able to tag him in posts, but as of Saturday evening, Trump himself has not tweeted anything.

On Saturday, Trump continued to post several times to Truth, where he wrote about the midterm election results, the FBI, and his ongoing trials.

Back in April, Trump told Fox News Digital that he won’t return to Twitter even if the ban was reversed. He said at the time, “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”

Many have wondered about Twitter’s future following Musk’s takeover, which was marked by a complete overhaul in the platform’s verification system, significant changes in moderation, massive layoffs, and mass resignation.
