WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Joe Biden on Monday asked Congress to pass legislation to avert a rail shutdown before Dec. 9.
  • The president said the strike could majorly disrupt the economy if lawmakers don’t act.
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said lawmakers would take up legislation this week.

President Joe Biden on Monday called on lawmakers to quickly approve a labor deal that would avert what he called a “potentially crippling national rail shutdown” as early as Dec. 9.

The tentative agreement, which Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House would vote on this week, aims to prevent a freight strike just two weeks before Christmas, but it has divided workers at two of the country’s biggest rail unions.

Biden urged lawmakers to adopt the tentative deal between railroad workers and operators — “without any modifications or delay” — and warned that the economic repercussions of a shutdown of the country’s freight rails would “devastate” the economy.

“As a proud pro-labor President, I am reluctant to override the ratification procedures and the views of those who voted against the agreement,” Biden said in a statement. “But in this case — where the economic impact of a shutdown would hurt millions of other working people and families — I believe Congress must use its powers to adopt this deal.”

“Congress should get this bill to my desk well in advance of December 9th so we can avoid disruption,” he added.

The tentative agreement, which was approved by labor and management negotiators in September, would provide a 24% pay raise for rail workers and improved health care benefits, Biden said.

Shortly after Biden’s statement, Pelosi said the House would take up the tentative agreement reached between unions and railroads this week.

“This week, the House will take up a bill adopting the Tentative Agreement — with no poison pills or changes to the negotiated terms — and send it to the Senate,” she said in a statement.

It’s all a scheme to blow inflation completely out of control.
If one company gets Congress to intervene with a forced pay increase, then legally all companies can get congress to intervene.
It’s just more racketeering on the part of Bidens administration, and you can bet your ass thay Biden is collecting a huge commission to force this to happen just like Obama collected big time to force everybody in the United States to buy health insurance.
      DEMOCRAT RACKETEERING.
Plain working people that don’t belong to unions are left behind with half the pay and forced to live in poverty unless they join in on the Racketeering which just continues to cause severe inflation.

How else can anybody not see what you are saying. The Obama’s were worth $800,000 before entering and $40,000,000 when they left the WH, including book deals that should not have happened until they left! And this crap of giving past presidents $200,000 for the rest of their lives for 4 – 8 yrs for nothing. You or me (or anybody else) would never get a huge pension for the same amount of time on any job for only 4 – 8 yrs of being with any company.

Didn’t Chrysler Corporation do the same thing when Lee iococa went to Washington an asked for a bailout and got it based on the fact that the bailout (paying the salary of the auto workers would be cheaper than paying the unemployment

The unions are about to shut down the rail system and cripple this country’s supply chain, but all the Biden administration is worried about is “nationalizing” Twitter to shut down free speech. It’s time for a change, people…

The main problem with our country today is the spineless, doesn’t even know where he is half the time, man in the White House. [It galls me that he is there due to fraud and cheating, stealing the office from the person who actually won the election, PRESIDENT TRUMP! The status of our (once) great country will return when this empty suit is sent back to civilian life to live as the rest of the country does. It is also galling that he has been his whole adult life in government, never in business, and living off the backs of we tax payers who pay for it.🤬
