Bill Barr says ‘Trump will burn down the GOP’

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump “will burn down the GOP” if he doesn’t get what he wants, warns former AG Bill Barr.
  • Barr credited Trump’s administration for halting progressives’ momentum and achieving important policy successes.
  • But he said that Trump doesn’t have the necessary qualities to get a unified and broad victory needed in 2024.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr called for “new leadership,” warning that former President Donald Trump “will burn down the GOP.”

Barr made the remarks in a Monday piece for former New York Times columnist Bari Weiss’ Substack publication, Common Sense. It was titled, “Bill Barr: Trump Will Burn Down the GOP. Time for New Leadership.”

Barr started by listing his former boss’s positive attributes, such as “his willingness to state unpleasant truths that many were afraid to say.” He added that Trump gave a voice to those “who were fed up with the excesses of progressive Democrats,” shone a light on “the shameless partisanship of the mainstream media” and called out those who “appeared content to preside over the decline of America.”

Despite all this, Barr believes that “new leadership” is required to achieve a unified and broad victory needed in 2024.

Barr called out Trump for “his wrecking-ball style” of administration and his “disruptiveness and penchant for chaos.” He believes that Trump’s personality was “repellant” to many people, citing “his impulse for pettiness and pointless nastiness,” and his “infantile name-calling spats.”

Barr maintained that it was not “fraud” that led to Trump’s 2020 election loss but his failure to reach out to voters outside his base.

Barr said that the GOP has a “historic opportunity” to lead voters out of the “sharp leftward lurch” of the Democrats. He suggested reviving a Reaganesque base of “college-educated suburbanites,” “conservative working-class voters,” and “classical liberals who are repulsed by the left’s authoritarianism.”

But he said that Trump doesn’t have the attributes to attract such a base. He also blamed “Trump’s mischief” for the Republicans’ poor midterms performance.

He pointed out that Trump keeps using his support as “leverage to extort and bully the rest of the party into submission” when his base “is probably no larger than a quarter of the GOP.”

Barr warned, “The threat is simple: unless the rest of the party goes along with him, he will burn the whole house down by leading “his people” out of the GOP.”

He continued, “Trump’s willingness to destroy the party if he does not get his way is not based on principle, but on his own supreme narcissism. His egoism makes him unable to think of a political party as anything but an extension of himself—a cult of personality.”

Barr showed appreciation to Trump’s administration for “stopping progressives’ momentum and achieving important policy successes.” However, he believes that the former president “does not have the qualities required to win the kind of broad, durable victory I see as necessary to restore America.”

“It is time for the 45th president to step aside,” he concluded.

Look at all the things that Trump accomplished as president. He will go down as one of the greatest presidents in the history of this country. Yes he does have some faults as he’s a human being but no one else has ever accomplished what he has in such a short time. Love him or hate him he can fix the problems that the Biden administration has created for this country. Bill Barr can say what he will about Trump but the proof is in the pudding and what Trump accomplished in his four years was amazing and that you cannot deny. You might not like his mouth but you have to like his actions and his deeds.

What, exactly, did Trump accomplish that was so great and exactly what problems did Biden create for this country? I know that there was some accomplishments of the Trump administration, but they certainly do not qualify him “as one of the greatest presidents in the history of this country” and many of them were begun long before Trump stepped into office, and were opposed by GOP congressional leaders (prison reform act). And I don’t know about you, but I think the country is NOT falling apart under Biden any more than it did under Trump. The 800 pound gorilla in this whole story is COVID. The end of Trump’s presidency was a catastrophe because of COVID and less because of Trump, and the beginning mess of Biden’s presidency is the same. You have to look at their administration in the context of the rest of what’s going on. Trump did not have the Ukraine war to deal with. Biden did not have the beginning of the COVID pandemic to deal with – just its ending. I would absolutely agree that what Trump accomplished in four years was amazing – amazingly destructive of our system of government.

“BUSHITTES” like Barr, Kavenaugh, and the rest of the Bush legacy puppets have burned down the REPUBLICAN Party and the GOP. They are the other part of the Liberal party that allows for the SWAMP. Because of Bush and Barr we have a failed two party system and Bushes Father was a major player in the GREAT RESET titled the New Word Order

Bill Barr is right. This great country can surely have both a strong conservative leader and a quality human being as our President. Trump’s huge ego makes him hard to trust and respect. Let’s find another Ronald Reagan.

if anything, arrogant Trump will crash and burn all on his own. It’s not an entitlement for Trump to be POTUS in 2024, anymore than it is an entitlement for Hillary to be POTUS. One has to earn it. The GOP isn’t going to make a commitment, that Trump should be the only candidate running for the Republicans in 2024 for POTUS. There is no guarantee Trump will win a primary fight. The GOP is going to back whoever wins the primary, Trump & family keeps bad mouthing other potential Republicans for the top spot, Trump is going to turn a lot of voters off. Trump isn’t the only republican that can be a cure all fix all for America. Any good Republican can pick up where Trump left off.

Almost all of the comments above are supportive of Trump and critical of Bill Barr. Bill Barr stood up to Trump to tell him there was no systemic fraud in the 2020 election that would change its outcome and Trump got rid of him. So, I conclude that the people critical of Barr on this post do so because they continue to believe that the 2020 election was “stolen” and the Barr is a liar (about that issue). I think there has been plenty of time to determine if the election was indeed stolen and the evidence is just not there. If it were, why aren’t there legal proceedings to adjudicate it? Because the democrats are in charge? But many of the jurisdictions are controlled by Republicans! There aren’t any legal proceedings because there is no evidence that can stand up in court where truth really matters. You know, you can say whatever you want on TV or radio about these things and there IS NO PENALTY FOR LYING. The only penalty for lying in this country is in a court of law under oath. Just because some talking heads say it does not make it true. What we need in this country is a strong conservative voice that will reel in the nutso leftists of the democratic party. We do not need Trump because he feeds the nutso right wingers

Trump did more for military and it’s families than any other cowardice president before him. The Bidens and the Kennedys are of the same ilk. Born of criminal activities.

It is amazingf that sensible people like you, after knowing ALL things, IMMORAL, ILLEGAL and DIVISIVE things that the criminal Trump did, before and during his presidency, your kind still supports him! He has destroyed the very positive image of US and Americans that the rest of the world had. Even almost all of our European allies were fed up with him. He is nothing but a “white supremist” who wants to control EVERYONE! Can’t you see the after effects of his four years as President where the US is today, as opposed to where it was before him?

I don’t give any credence to Bill Barr after his disastrous Trump-abetting stint as Attorney General. Ask me if you want details. But Trump HAS destroyed the GOP–from it’s Chairman Rhona Daniels cooptation through United States members of Congress lying and abetting his criminality in and out of office. That’s why moderate Republicans have left the party and become Independents, Democrats and Lincoln Project supporters. I’m just afraid that too many of those supporting Trump and the man himself may escape the long arm of the law and Hill tradition to impeach, incarcerate, indict or convict them before January’s change in House majority leadership.

Though I am a Trump supporter of his policies during , Presidency ,his excessive Tweeter antics to adjunct comments did not help or work. The positive comments made by Mr, Barr, towards Mr. Trump are very true and yes think the , Trump train policies need to be advanced to someone else to be determined.
