WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Donald Trump officially opened an “Office of the Former President” on Monday from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
  • It would “carry on the agenda of the Trump Administration” and announce his plans after leaving office.
  • Trump was banned indefinitely from social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook.

Former President Donald Trump announced Monday that he had opened an “office” in Florida that will do the announcements about his work post-presidency.

One of the projects is an endorsement of ex-spokeswoman Sarah Sanders’ gubernatorial campaign in Arkansas.

The office will handle Trump’s “correspondence, public statements, appearances, and official activities” in order to advance his former administration’s agenda and it will alert the media to any “advocacy, organizing, and public activism” involving the former president, according to Monday’s email blast to reporters.

Last week, Trump and wife Melania left the White House for Florida shortly before new president Joe Biden was sworn in. He did not attend Biden’s inauguration.

Trump has mostly stayed out of the spotlight during his last days in office and spent time at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. He and his team are now preparing for his second impeachment trial in the Senate in early February.

On Wednesday, CNN reported that the former first lady will also keep her own staff and will focus on continuing her “Be Best” project.

Trump has been known to be an avid Twitter user and has millions of followers. But he was silenced by social media when his accounts on Twitter and Facebook were suspended indefinitely after he urged supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Trump has received a mixed response when they return to Mar-a-Lago, with some club members looking to distance themselves from the twice-impeached former president, who left D.C. with a historically low approval rating, People reported.

One Palm Beach source says some Mar-a-Lago and Trump International Golf Club members have joined at least one other golf club in order to stay away from Trump’s courses for the foreseeable future.

“They don’t want to be anywhere near him or his name so they are looking for alternative golf clubs to join,” the source says. “There are so many to choose from, it shouldn’t alter their lifestyles too much. They just want to get as far away from him, and the Trump name, as possible.”
