WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Steve Goncalves, the father of slain University of Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves, saw connections between the suspect and his daughter.
  • Goncalves plans to attend the hearing and look the suspect in the eye.
  • Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old grad student at Washington State University, was arrested in Pennsylvania on Friday.

The family of one of the quadruple homicide victims in Idaho is looking into possible connections of their daughter with the arrested suspect, Bryan Kohberger.

Kaylee Goncalves, 21, was brutally murdered on November 13 at a residence outside the University of Idaho campus. She was killed with her roommates, Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kernodle’s boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20.

Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, said his entire world was “turned upside down” when he learned the tragic news.

After weeks of having no strong leads, police arrested 28-year-old Kohberger on Friday in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. He faces burglary charges and four counts of first-degree murder.

Goncalves called Kohberger a coward. He said that while members of his family do not know the suspect, they believe there are connections between him and Kaylee that they “aren’t ready to talk about yet.”

Shanon Grey, the family’s attorney, told ABC News that her clients are trying to look into any connections now that a suspect has been identified.

Goncalves said he’ll be in the courtroom when Kohberger faces his murder charges. He remarked, “This guy’s gonna have to look me in my eyes multiple times, and I’m going to be looking for the truth. That’s really what I’m going to be looking for.”

Moscow Police Chief James Fry said that Kohberger was a grad student at Washington State University, located just 10 miles from the University of Idaho.

Kohberger’s lawyer, Jason LaBar, said that his client plans to waive his extradition hearing. This means that he could be transferred to Latah County within the week. He said that his client neither denied nor admitted to the charges he’s facing, but believes in his exoneration.

Fry told Fox News on Saturday that police believe Kohberger is the sole perpetrator. He stated, “We truly believe we have the individual that committed these crimes.”

Before the arrest, Fry assured the community that it is “safe” but still urged them to “be vigilant.”
