House passes gun control bill package [Video]
- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a gun control bill package on a 223-204 vote that fell mostly on party lines.
- The Protecting Our Kids Act bans ghost guns and bump stocks, raises the age of purchase, adds penalties for illegal selling and trafficking, and strengthens safe storage.
- The bill is expected to stall in the split Senate, however.
The Protecting Our Kids Act has been passed on Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives on a 223-204 vote that fell mostly on party lines. Congressional Democrats, who swiftly assembled the gun control bill package earlier this month, say it will reduce gun violence. Five Republicans joined their cause.
The bill would be the most significant gun control measure passed by the House in nearly two decades.
The call for gun control recently intensified following the mass shootings at Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas.
House Judiciary Committee Chair, Rep. Jerry Nadler, declared, “Who will be able to tell their constituents that they stood with them and not with the gun lobby? Americans are watching. They are begging us to protect them and their loved ones from gun violence, who among us will answer their call?”
Earlier this month, Nadler’s committee passed the legislation on a 25-19 party-line vote during an emergency session.
The bill bans so-called “bump stocks,” which make semiautomatic rifles fire in rapid succession, and “ghost guns,” firearm assembly kits that are difficult to track. It also provides new federal offenses for using “straw” purchasers for gun trafficking and selling or manufacturing large-capacity magazines.
While the bill does not completely ban semiautomatic rifles, it raises the age of purchase to 21, citing the age of recent perpetrators. The bill also includes penalties for gun owners who don’t properly store firearms out of reach of minors.
House Republicans described the bill as an unworkable, unconstitutional overreach.
Minnesota Rep. Michelle Fischbach argued, “This could turn millions of illegal guns into contraband and law-abiding gun owners into felons. [The bill] is another reminder that Democrats fundamentally have no respect for the Second Amendment rights.”
She argued that safe-storage requirements violate the Fourth Amendment‘s protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. She added that tracing requirements would lead to separate serial numbers for multiple parts of the same gun.
Florida Rep. Kat Cammack insisted, “It is not the guns, it is the people.” She argued that domestic violence victims will be left defenseless and that the government should address the mental health crisis.
While some Senate Republicans have expressed willingness to consider the issue, the bill could face difficulty in the upper chamber.
On Wednesday, Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R) shared a video on the status of the talks. He also identified mental health as the major factor behind mass shootings. He expressed optimism for the passage of a bill, but refused to be pressured by “artificial deadlines.”

Thank you for your brave service, Sir! I never served, but I was on the R.O.T.C. rifle team in H.S. When we had a match after school, we would carry our Winchester Mod. 52 and our gear, and ammo, to each class so we wouldn’t waste time gathering it after school. With that, and the fact that every truck in the parking lot had a rifle rack in it, we didn’t seem to have any school shootings going on.

Thanks for your service. My advise is for every law abiding citizen to own a gun, be trained on how to use it and when it is legal to do so. We are without any doubt soon going to see a number of well planned riots and executions. The deep state couldn’t care less about the citizenry of the United States.

Still unconstitutional and will NOT stop these mass shootings! Criminals will find a way to get their firearms any way they can!
23,000 anti-gun “laws” and we STILL have those mass shootings. MURDER is a CRIME and we still have murders EVERY DAY and not all are done with a firearm! But we don’t have any “laws” that keep murderers from murdering other people! Or laws “regulating” those other murder weapons.

teach all young people about guns and what they can do
find out who is balanced and who is unbalanced ( who can responcibly handle guns and who cant)
teach all young people about what is required to protect our country and learn patriotism

The ‘mass shootings’ are not done by the law abiding citizens! Gangs and criminals aren’t going to respect the laws or give up guns.
The only real gun control we need is “being able to hit what you aim at” the other 1000 gun control laws they just won’t enforce and they don’t stop the mass shootings, why make more repeat laws?
Help the mental cases! Stop letting criminals out to cause more problems with society. Start using “eye for an eye” to deal with criminals. Genesis 9 : 6 to deal with murders! Common sense would help a lot…..

They will not stop until they have shredded and gotten rid of the Constitution. It’s funny that they think “they will be in control”, they will be controlled just like the rest of us. Many other countries don’t like us and most likely they don’t like or trust our politicians either!

Go ahead and try this . You will soon discover that this bill , along with all the others that have not been enforced , will in no way prevent future killings .
