WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Bryan Kohberger’s neighbor said the Idaho murder suspect once told him the incident seemed like a “crime of passion.”
  • He also said that serial killers are “rare,” when talking about Netflix’s Jeffrey Dahmer miniseries.
  • The suspect is facing four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary.

A neighbor of Bryan Kohberger’s in Pullman, Washington, said the murder suspect spoke to him about the killings days after they occurred. The neighbor, who wished not to be identified said Kohberger told him the murder appeared like “a crime of passion.”

“He brought it up in conversation,” the neighbor exclusively told CBS Mornings on Thursday. “[He] asked if I had heard about the murders, which I did. And then he said, ‘Yeah, seems like they have no leads. Seems like it was a crime of passion.’”

“At the time of our conversation, it was only a few days after it happened so there [wasn’t much] details out,” the neighbor added.

The search warrant for Kohberger’s apartment in Pullman, Washington, has been temporarily sealed by an Idaho judge. The judge said the details could “prematurely end the investigation” and “create a threat to public safety.”

Kohberger is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. The four students were stabbed at the women’s off-campus rental home in Moscow, Idaho.

Few details were released about the investigation into the murders until after Kohberger was arrested at his family’s home in Pennsylvania in December. Almost seven weeks passed before the police make an arrest after the Nov. 13 killings.

An affidavit with information on how the police tracked down the suspect was unsealed after Kohberger was extradited to Idaho. The suspect appeared in court on Thursday.

Students of the University of Idaho are returning to class for the first time since the suspect’s arrest.

He said that to the neighbor to throw the prosecutor off by having
another witness testify about another possibility of the crime.

@Bill Wilson is on the ball. There’s a young lady crime investigator on You Tube who says she believes the USMC leather knife sheath was placed on the scene by the murderer, who goofed because he believed he had thoroughly cleaned it but overlooked the snap button closure.
