WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Donald Trump made his last address at the White House on Tuesday via a 20-minute video.
  • The outgoing president highlighted his achievements and wished the incoming administration success moving forward.
  • President-elect Joe Biden will officially swear as the US’ 46th President on Wednesday noon.

In his last video-recorded address at the White House on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said that he did everything he could for the country.

Trump started his speech by saying: “As I conclude my term as the 45th president of the United States, I stand before you truly proud of what we have achieved together.”

“This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous,” he continued, adding: “We also want them to have luck, a very important word,” he added.

The president continued, saying that he “did what we came here to do ― and so much more.”

“Above all, we have reasserted the sacred idea that in America, the government answers to the people,” Trump noted. “We restored the idea that in America, no one is forgotten ― because everyone matters and everyone has a voice.”

Reflecting on his entry into politics, Trump described himself as the only “true” outsider ever seated at the White House.

Even with spending his tenure to slam his opponents and give pardons to his allies, Trump falsely claimed that his presidency “was not about Republican or Democrat, but about the good of a nation, and that means the whole nation.”

The outgoing president devoted most of his 20-minute speech by highlighting his administration’s accomplishments which include building over “450 miles of a powerful new wall” across the US’ 2000-mile border with Mexico. In reality, though, only around 80 remaining miles had no barrier.

Since Election Day, the president has continuously claimed without evidence of widespread voter fraud as he refused to concede to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. His campaign legal team had launched several lawsuits to challenge the election results, but every case was instantly rejected by the courts.

On Wednesday morning, Trump is set to take his final Air Force One flight bound to Florida, as he will reside at his club Mar-a-Lago.

By noon on the same day, Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are set to take the oath of office on the West Front at the US Capitol. Security will be massive as 20,000 National Guard troops will be placed around the area.
