WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday the launch of his own social media platform.
  • Called “Truth Social,” Trump said it’s created in order to “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.”
  • Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube after the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

Former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday the upcoming launch of his own social media network called “Truth Social.”

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,” Trump said in a release.

Trump said he’s excited to send out his first TRUTH on TRUTH Social “very soon.” According to the former president, the mission of TMTG (Trump Media & Technology Group) is “to give a voice to all.”

“Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!” he added.

Trump was silenced by major platforms — Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, banning him after the January 6 riot at the Capitol. He ran a blog similar to Twitter after leaving the White House, but it was shut down after about a month of operation.

Earlier this month, Trump asked a federal judge to force Twitter into reinstating his account.

“Coerced by members of the United States Congress, operating under an unconstitutional immunity granted by a permissive federal statute, and acting directly with federal officials, Defendant is censoring Plaintiff, a former President of the United States,” the motion read.

In November, a beta launch of the site is expected for “invited guests.” Truth Social’s full launch is set for the first quarter of 2022.

It was also announced that TMTG has agreed to merge with Digital World Acquisition Corp., allowing it to become a publicly listed company.

TMTG also revealed plans to launch a subscription-based video service called TMTG+. It is reported to feature “non-woke” programming. The project will be led by Scott St. John, a reality television producer who has worked on shows such as “Deal or No Deal” and “America’s Got Talent.”
