Sen. Warren calls for Democrats to cancel student debt to avoid ‘disaster’ midterms
- Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) called for Democrats to deliver more on the president’s agenda, foremost of which is canceling student debt.
- The senator made the remarks in a guest essay for the New York Times, titled “Democrats Can Avoid Disaster in November.”
- Warren explained that canceling student loan debt provides relief for every target demographic: the underprivileged, women, and Black and Hispanic citizens.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said that Democrats could potentially avoid a “disaster” in the midterm elections by providing additional student loan debt relief, among other measures.
Warren wrote a guest essay on Monday for the New York Times, entitled “Democrats Can Avoid Disaster in November.”
She wrote, “Democrats need to deliver more of the president’s agenda, or else we will not be in the majority much longer.”
She said that legislators need to address certain issues, such as corruption, climate change, tax loopholes, and student debt.
Warren pointed out that canceling student loan debt, which “the president could take entirely on his own,” provides relief for every target demographic: the underprivileged, women, and Black and Hispanic citizens.
She explained that “by a margin of more than two-to-one, Americans support providing some student loan debt cancellation.” Student debt also affects the underprivileged, “female borrowers who shoulder about two-thirds of all student loan debt,” and Black and Hispanic borrowers who “have a harder time paying it off after school.”
“With the stroke of a pen, the president could make massive strides to close gender and racial wealth gaps,” she wrote.
The Department of Education made an announcement on Tuesday that it has addressed “historical failures in the administration of the federal student loan programs,” which would lead to “immediate debt cancellation for at least 40,000 borrowers under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.”
Warren responded to the announcement by writing, “Fixing the Income-Driven Repayment system for borrowers is critical — and it starts with providing relief to the millions of borrowers who followed the rules but haven’t received the forgiveness they were promised. #CancelStudentDebt.”
Several other Progressive Democrats have called for President Joe Biden to deliver more on his agenda, including the cancellation of all student loan debt.
The Progressive Caucus tweeted on Tuesday that the recent debt relief would “make a meaningful difference,” but pointed out that “45 million people” are still stuck with student debt. They then continued to call on Biden to “use his existing authority to cancel it.”
During last week’s appearance on the live podcast, Pod Save America, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden’s use of executive action to cancel all student loan debt is “still on the table.”
Psaki added, “Nobody’s had to pay a dollar, a cent, anything in student loans since Joe Biden has been president,” referring to the pause on federal student loan payments.
This pause was first enacted during former President Donald Trump’s administration amid the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but was continuously extended, with the latest extension going until August 31.
Psaki said that the pause will either be “extended or we’re going to make a decision,” about canceling them.

I have a counter proposal…Let the elite Democrats pay for this since it’s their idea. This is a personal affront to every American of every political pursuasion that paid their way through college. Personally, I worked 33 hours a week at 4.25/ hour (70’s) to pay my rent, utilities, food, and books. My parents paid my tuition. This is just another attempt for the Left to make Americans SUBJECTS and take away their citizenship and, therefore, our rights.

One only received $1400.00. and if one thought the money was free, Corrupt Quid Pro is going to get it back 10x over with increased Federal Taxes, and if one thinks your student loan payoff is free guess again. wait till tax time and the IRS tells the Student, how much money did the government give one to pay off your student loan, put it down as income. Even if Corrupt Quid Pro does the payoff, is still not an excuse to keep the liberal commie Democrats in office. They are corrupt, deceitful and dishonest. The reason America is in this mess right now is because of Corrupt Quid Pro and the Democrats, not Putin and the war in the Ukraine. The reason everyone is paying through the roof for gasoline is because of the Democrats and a mentally incompetent POTUS. The reason America has an infinite amount of illegals crossing the Southern Border is because of the Democrats and a mentally incompetent POTUS and the reason we have massive inflation is because of the Democrats and this mentally incompetent POTUS. Paying off one’s students loan, what the liberal commie Democrats expect in return is that one will vote Democrat. Same goes for the Southern Border, they expect in return for all the welfare, after being given voting rights, they expect the illegals to vote Democrat. Voting Democrat will not change any of the above. One will still have to deal with massive inflation, brought on by the government spending money it doesn’t have including paying off one’s student debt. So if the government wants to pay off the student loan, I would take the money and still vote the Democrats out of office, So unless one wants a POTUS that can’t remember on any given day what he ate for lunch, wants to live under a one party rule, a one party rule= Communism(Communist China will be so happy) wants an America patented after Socialist Europe, and an American Government patented after Communist China, where one will definitely lose their 1st Amendment and 2nd Amendment rights, then go ahead vote for the liberal commie Democrats, be gullible believe in their perfect Utopia, there is no such thing. If not then one knows what they have to do. vote as many Democrats and RINO’s out of office, otherwise no one has a right to complain about massive inflation, the Southern Border, or in general, how inherently corrupt this administration is. I am now a independent voter who does not believe the lies regarding man made global warming. In 1960 (I am 80years old) I was at the North Pole on the Storis USCG cutter, a cargo / Icebreaker (Stationed in Kodak) and we were to meet the Sea Dragon, (One of our first Nuclear Submarine and a British Nuclear Sub, and break ice for the through the Bearing Straits and into the Bearing Sea. There was no ice. The North Pole was open water. Flat as bath water. Five Miles away Russian cruise ship, with tourists, were filming the Water and the Northern lights in the day time. Our main mission was to dismantle the DEW Line Station, the old Distant Early Warning System , that would warn us of a Russia Attack over the pole. The new top secret Satellites were in place, and We removed te Equipment from the Radar, radios etc. and delivered it to the Naval Station at Kodiak. The Distant Early Warning ( DEW Line)was obsolete. The North froze up again in the 70’s and started to thaw again in the early 80’s. Al Gore wrote his book and made millions. Even his wife left him. What a gigantic scam. Still is. Russia, India, China and others are not buying it or in on it. We have the Most domestic oil in the world. We should be exporting oil. Biden shut our oil down and then ought oil from Russia,. It did not make sense except to the people who want to destroy the United States and go to a One World Order. Biden even Stated He Wanted a One World Order, an the US would be in charge. There will be a one world order tried, but the US will be gone.

Pacified until after midterms, then Democrats will just pass you off again! There is no way that the loan holders will let go of this golden goose! And Democrats won’t go against anything that makes them money. Remember back when so many were loosing their homes as couldn’t afford mortgage? Obama bailed out banks and savings & loans! Still people lost their homes. This is the democratic way. Corruption and self interest is the name of this party!

Cancelling student debt is the equivalent of an admission that the education was not worth what students have paid for it. It is, also, just another means of the Democrat Party to entice people to vote Democrat. They have kicked the can so far down the road with respect to debt, that it is, virtually, impossible to EVER repay the debt. It is so unrealistic that no one even contemplates the idea. The next question we need to ask, logically, is why do we even bother to pay people to sit in the congress and approve excuses for the failures of democrat policies?

Why should the tax payers be stuck paying off student loan debt? The students incurred the debt, they should pay it. They got the “ supposed” higher education, we didn’t, they should pay their own student loans off. If they couldn’t afford it, they should not have borrowed it.
