Clear Facts:

  • A 10-year-old boy, Quantavious Eason, was arrested for public urination in Senatobia, Mississippi and claims he was held in a jail cell.
  • The mother, Latonya Eason, expressed disbelief and frustration at law enforcement’s decision to arrest her child, especially after initially being told he’d only receive a warning.
  • Chief Richard Chandler admitted that transporting the child to the station was an “error in judgment” but did not comment on the jail cell claim.

Latonya Eason, a concerned mother from Senatobia, Mississippi, has recently voiced her distress after her 10-year-old son, Quantavious Eason, was arrested for public urination and allegedly held in a jail cell.

On Aug. 10, while visiting a Senatobia attorney’s office for legal guidance, Eason was informed by an officer that her son was caught urinating behind her car.

Eason shared with WHBQ-TV, “I was like, ‘Son, why did you do that?’ He said, ‘Mom, my sister said they don’t have a bathroom there.’ I was like, ‘You knew better, you should have come and asked me if they had a restroom.’”

Eason added that although the officer said she “handled it like a mom” and initially seemed to accept the situation with just a warning for Quantavious, the narrative took a sharp turn.

To her astonishment, several other officers appeared on the scene, and a lieutenant declared that the child had to be taken to jail.

Expressing her dismay, Eason said to WHBQ, “I’m just speechless right now. Why would you arrest a 10-year-old kid?”

The deeply affected child, Quantavious, recalled his harrowing experience, stating, “I started crying a little bit. They took me down there and got me out of the truck. I didn’t know what was happening. I get scared and start shaking and thinking I am going to jail.”

Furthermore, he alleged that he was indeed confined in a jail cell.

The Senatobia police remained non-committal on confirming if Quantavious was genuinely held in a cell. However, Chief Richard Chandler has expressed that transporting the child to the police station was an “error in judgment.”

Notably, he made no comment about the child being kept in a cell but did acknowledge that Quantavious wasn’t handcuffed.

The aftermath of this disturbing event also saw Quantavious being charged with “child in need of services” and subsequently released to his mother.

Eason emotionally conveyed to WHBQ how such a traumatic experience could potentially lead her son to dread future interactions with law enforcement.

As a result of this incident, Quantavious now faces a youth court referral, as reported by WHBQ.

Some public officials (in this case cops) continually insist on proving they have nothing but excrement between their ears.

The boy had to urinate. Big deal. The world didn’t come to an end. The police officers should have understood that.

Insane, the only thing that child should’ve received was a stern warning, nothing else. I doubt there are very many males in America that can honestly say they’ve never done the same, especially as children.

Brenda, unless the boy has NEVER seen the news, how can he understand urinating in public is wrong in Mississippi, but revered and heavily allowed in California? In the bible, a male is described as one who pisses against a wall. Look for the side of a wall, Quantavious- and MAGA ( MAKE AMERICA GODLY AGAIN ! )

Quite amateur and dramatic for a police officer. The officer should have a mental evaluation. Wasn’t there something he could have been doing that was productive?

There must be more to this? As related it is difficult to fathom.

The police officers are idiots and no amount of training will change that, note there were reported several. Should have asked the kid where his mother was and mentioned this to her. Whoever is writing the laws in this town needs to get another job and the City Council should have their heads examined for passing this law.

So where is the morality from the adults?! Was he peeing behind a tree, out of the way so no one could see him?! If he just dropped his shorts and started pissing in public, then he needs his butt spanked!! It would appear that his parents haven’t taught him any self-discipline or any moral beliefs of modesty!!! At this rate of disrepect he’ll be on the coroner slab or prison down the road!!! So you complainers need to get a grip!!! The trip might do him some good! Me, I would have taken him home and written a warning on the parents!!

He’s a little boy. What kid hasn’t done this or the near equivalent at some point? When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

Another sign our country has gone to s___. It’s ok if your homeless or illegal to pee or crap on our side walks. Or rob and vandalize all our businesses.
That must very proud of himself that he captured this 10 yo kid. Hope his wife slaps him silly tonight.

I am white & I totally agree. I can’t believe that there’s any other explanation for this ridiculous & hurtful action, especially when there’s so much other valid police work to be done!

I think I can safely say all us males have discreetly watered a tree or two. Sometimes even a bush. Unless we, all of us males, are openly displaying our selves it is not indecent exposure. My late wife was known to “cope a squat” when cought away from the house when walking. NO BIG DEAL if done discretely.

It just got out of control , the women cop was doing a good job in handling the problem , PS grown men / women can do it any where an not a thing can be dun about it , PS at least he went behind the car an not in FRONT OF IT , as I see it

LMB get a life, behind the car idiot, the kid had to go. Patrolman, you wasted an opportunity to be a positive influence for this child. Police Lt. extremely poor judgment. Quant, just an all American youngster. Quant’s mom, advised her son perfectly. Police Department, charges need to disappear with a written apology.
Just an opinion from an old white conservative.

I agree. Kids can’t hold their bladders as good as most adults and they don’t have the judgement capacity to always be as discreet as they could be. The police officer should have been helpful and understanding as I am sure they would have been if it was their child.

I can see both sides, having worked in a children’s home. BUT, they did go a little TOO far! I once did something similar to about an 8-9 yr old, for stealing. Thankfully, the officer handled it VERY well (stealing was a common occurance in that family), but his house mother, ruined the whole situation, of an officer trying to teach him what would happen to him in a few more years, if he didn’t stop it THEN! If someone had done the same to his older brother, he might have turned out better. As it was, we couldn’t take him anywhere, because he would steal something from anyone around! I suspect, he wound up in jail
    ! (LONG TERM)!!!

I have no problem with placing a child in a jail cell for a few hours and possibly even overnight! I personally asked the police to cuff my own 10 year old daughter, transport her to the police station and jail her until I got there after work to pick her up after she shoplifted a candy bar. They were VERY reluctant but finally agreed to do as I asked. It was harsh but taught her a serious lesson. She had learned there are consequences to her actions and turned into a wonderful person that became a great mother that teaches values to her own children.

What kind of police officer reacts like this to a ten year old taking a leak. I bet every one of those cops has done that. Talk about power going to your head. Mr officer, try to relax a little.
