Chicago Teacher Charged After Arriving with Minor at Miami International Airport

In a concerning incident, Emilio Vrdoljak, a private school teacher based in Chicago, was apprehended and subsequently charged with attempting to produce child pornography.

Federal agents grew suspicious of Vrdoljak after they spotted him trying to re-enter the United States alongside a 17-year-old Argentinian male at Miami International Airport.

As revealed in court papers, Vrdoljak and the teenager, arriving from Buenos Aires, were stopped by Miami authorities on June 29.

The Argentinian adolescent informed the authorities that Vrdoljak was his instructor and he was visiting the U.S. for an educational stay of two weeks.

Disturbingly, the boy mentioned Vrdoljak had suggested sharing a bed during their time in Argentina, a suggestion he declined.

In a more disconcerting find, an examination of Vrdoljak’s mobile phone disclosed sexually suggestive remarks and photographs shared with another boy who claimed to be 16.

As per the affidavit, over several days, Vrdoljak not only sent this boy an explicit video but also requested one in return.

Confronted about his actions, Vrdoljak allegedly made a rather inappropriate statement to the investigators, saying he was “thinking with his butt.”

CWB Chicago provided an update that a U.S. Magistrate Judge stipulated a $250,000 bail for Vrdoljak on July 13. The teacher was also instructed to be under house arrest in his South Loop residence.

The arrest didn’t go unnoticed by his employer. The president of DePaul College Prep in North Center promptly notified both the school staff and parents.

While Vrdoljak was described as a “former, short-term employee” no longer associated with the institution, the email was disseminated “out of an abundance of caution” since the school claims no students were involved in the allegations.

The school, deeply rooted in Catholic and Vincentian traditions, is affiliated with DePaul University, also located in Chicago.

Vrdoljak’s history indicates a connection with Sprouts Academy Preschool, where he imparted Spanish lessons.

The preschool’s website showcases a brief description of Vrdoljak, detailing his Argentinian roots and his passion for travel and photography.
