Attorney General William Barr to resign before Christmas

Following his misunderstanding with President Donald Trump over issues concerning the 2020 elections, Attorney General William Barr has resigned from his Department of Justice role.

After his notice, Trump posted on Twitter Barr’s formal letter, announcing the December 23 is the attorney general’s last day at the office.

In his letter, Barr said that he felt honored serving under Trump’s Administration, praising the president for his accomplishments that benefited the Americans. He also wrote that President Trump’s achievement is “more historical” because he “accomplished it in the face of relentless, implacable resistance.”

In the same tweet,  Trump announced that Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen would serve as the pro tempore attorney general, and to fill the vacant role by Rosen will be Richard Donoghue.

It was recalled that on November 30, Barr announced that his department, the U.S. Justice Department discovered no proof of extensive fraud that could alter the result of the 2020 presidential race.

Barr said that both Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice scrutinized the claims, and they never found anything that could authenticate that some tools or programs could affect the votes.

The attorney general’s statement was a direct contradiction against

Trump’s claims, who up to now haven’t conceded to 46th President-elect Joe Biden. Despite lack of evidence, the president has frequently argued that the polls were fixed and “stolen.” 

The president’s supporters and campaign team have filed several charges, attempting to reverse the critical battleground regions’ results. Most of these lawsuits have been junked by the courts.

The pronouncement of no-election fraud was also noteworthy, considering attorney general Barr’s loyalty with Trump. He assaulted the 2016 inquiry into Russia’s supposed meddling in the election that Trump claimed was a “witch hunt,” criticizing the FBI for headlining the disturbing probe into a presidential drive based on the slightest of doubts.

Barr afterward called for determining where the 2016 Russia investigation originated,  ordering U.S. Attorney John Durham to launch a probe. Trump praised the move, and before Barr leaves, he appointed Durham for a special counsel role so the inquiry could move forward even during Biden’s term. Under Barr, the Justice Department also interfered in the criminal cases of Roger Stone and Michael Flynn, known Trump allies.
