WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) issued an apology Sunday after violating social distancing protocols during a dine-out with friends.
  • One attendee shared a group photo of Whitmer with a dozen of peers at the East Lansing bar-restaurant.
  • The governor also earned criticism last month over reports that she travelled to Florida in March amid the travel restrictions.

Following an apparent violation of state-ordered protocol on social distancing, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) issued an apology Sunday for breaking the rule during her visit at an East Lansing bar and grill.

In a report by the Detroit Free Press Sunday, a photo of Whitmer was revealed alongside a large gathering of people, with no face masks, at an East Lansing bar-restaurant.

The news outlet said that the photo was uploaded on social media by one attendee, showing Whitmer seated together with at least a dozen people. The post was taken down later on.

“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been committed to following public health protocols,” the governor said in a statement Sunday.

“Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together. Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it. In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize.”

At present, restaurant and bar establishments in Michigan are mandated to obey limited capacity and proper social distancing measures. Dine-in customers are only limited to a maximum of six, and tables should be six feet apart from each other.

Whitmer, who is already considered as a fully-vaccinated individual after receiving her second dose on April 29, was not the first political figure to earn the ire of the public after disobeying COVID-19 health and safety protocols. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) got also involved in the same criticism after attending a gathering amid the state-driven restrictions.

Last month,Whitmer was also in the hot shower after reports revealed that she travelled to Florida in March to visit her elderly father. At that time, Michigan released COVID-19 orders, discouraging people to do social gathering and travelling.

“It’s really easy in this climate to tear people down and attack people personally,” she said at the time, per Detroit News. “Some of the same people who criticized me would probably accuse me of not having family values if I didn’t show up when a family member needed me.”

Why is this news?…. Gov. Whitmer is not a peasant like those she governs!! Politicians, like her, are smarter, special, and above petty laws that should be obeyed by all lower class people’s, which is everyone else who is not Gov. Whitmer!! And, even though she’s only human, in the eyes of those she rules over, she should be looked upon as a queen!! So stop writing/ reporting useless fact-filled article’s as if this was a democracy, or some sort of constitutional republic, that we live in!! Thank you!!

Chief – do you find it as ‘interesting’ as I do that those “like her” seem to think that their soulful ‘apology’ is sufficient ‘penance’ for their intentional misdeeds but they certainly feel that us mere mortals should always pay a high price if we happen to run afoul of any or all edicts, rules or regulations that they dream up for us – but never follow themselves? Nah, nothing to see here move along – go back to whatever hovel they ‘allow’ us to dwell in. IOW shut up, sit down and do what our ‘betters’ tell us to do, no questions allowed.
