Clear Facts

  • A Manhattan grand jury has indicted New York Mayor Eric Adams on federal criminal charges, with details of the indictment currently under seal.
  • The FBI and Department of Justice have declined to comment, and it is unclear who Adams has retained as his personal attorney.
  • Several of Adams’ aides have been raided by federal agents in connection with the investigation.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams finds himself at the center of a federal criminal indictment, confirmed by multiple sources. Although the specific charges remain under seal, the indictment could be made public as early as tomorrow.

The FBI and Department of Justice have both refrained from commenting on the ongoing investigation. As of now, it is unclear who Adams has chosen as his legal representative.

In a statement, Mayor Adams expressed his resolve:
“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became.”

He continued:
“If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”

The investigation has already led to several raids on individuals within Adams’ close circle. In February, FBI agents raided the Bronx home of Winnie Greco, one of his top aides.

In November, federal agents also targeted the property of Cenk Ocal, a former Turkish Airlines executive and member of Adams’ transition team. That same month, they visited Brianna Suggs, the mayor’s chief fundraiser.

Rana Abbasova, another close aide, reportedly turned on Adams in May amid scrutiny over his dealings with Turkish Airlines.

New York State lawmakers have voiced their support for the indictment, seeing it as a necessary step for the city’s future. Gerard Kassar, New York State Conservative Party Chairman, stated:
“The mayor and his administration appear to be riddled with corruption, and the public has lost all confidence in their ability to move the five boroughs forward. Mr. Adams should do what’s best for this city and step aside so that a new election can be held. His situation is untenable.”

New York Congressman Nick Langworthy echoed these sentiments:
“Another NY Democrat clouded in scandal. Time and again, they have proved they only care about their personal power and scoring political points, not what’s best for New York’s taxpayers. It’s time for people to send a message that they aren’t going to take it anymore.”

The FBI’s investigation reportedly includes probing whether Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign conspired with the Turkish government and other entities to raise funds.
