NDAA Demands Answers On COVID Lab Leak
Clear Facts
- The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) requires U.S. intelligence agencies to declassify information on COVID-19 origins and Chinese government efforts to conceal facts.
- Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is mandated to coordinate declassification reviews related to the Wuhan lab and gain-of-function research.
- The bill pushes intelligence leaders to disclose withheld documents and investigate suppression of the lab leak theory.
The NDAA now includes a requirement for the Trump Administration’s intelligence officials to release what they know about whether the COVID-19 pandemic originated from the Wuhan lab in China. The bill aims to increase transparency and demands that previously classified intelligence on the virus’s origins be reviewed and made public.
It calls for the Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, working alongside other agency heads, to review intelligence connected to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and to examine evidence on gain-of-function research.
The law also requires the investigation of actions by Chinese officials aimed at blocking information and disrupting global investigations into COVID’s start. Intelligence agencies must review matters such as Chinese attempts to limit information sharing with America and its allies.
“DNI Gabbard remains committed to declassifying COVID-19 information and looks forward to continued work with Congress to share the truth about pandemic-era failures with the American people,” a spokesperson for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) stated.
The White House identifies that the publication, “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,” was referenced by public health officials to question the lab leak hypothesis, allegedly at Dr. Fauci’s encouragement. Years after the pandemic’s start, there is new momentum to uncover the truth, as intelligence and whistleblower testimony continue to highlight gaps in what is publicly known.
Gabbard’s office launched the Director’s Initiatives Group (DIG) to focus on rooting out politicization and to review documents for declassification — especially those concerning COVID-19 origins.
An ODNI official confirmed that Congress has received newly released records about COVID’s origins, including some that had been withheld by the Biden Administration. Gabbard’s team is conducting interviews with whistleblowers and weighing additional declassification efforts.
If passed, the NDAA obliges two major reviews: first, on scientific and funding aspects regarding coronavirus research in China, and second, on China’s attempts to disrupt investigations and withhold data about COVID-19’s dangers and transmissibility.
