WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is running for a third Senate term despite advocating for a two-term Senate limit.
  • His proposed bill aims to prevent the government from being run by “lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians.”
  • He argued that he will comply with the bill once it is passed, but until then, he will keep fighting for his constituents.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he is running for a third Senate term after introducing legislation that imposes a two-term Senate limit.

The proposed bill limits senators to two six-year terms and members of the House of Representatives to three two-year terms “after the date of its enactment.”

In defense of the bill, Cruz said that the Founding Fathers envisioned a government of lawmakers who would “serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians.”

During an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation, host Margaret Brennan asked Cruz why he was still running for a third term despite his advocacy on term limits.

Cruz argued that he will “happily comply” once the bill is passed, but he will keep “fighting for” his Texas constituents until then.

The senator stated, “I’ll tell you what, when the socialists and when the swamp are ready to leave Washington, I will be more than happy to comply with the same rules that apply [to] everyone. But until then, I’m going to keep fighting for 30 million Texans because they’ve asked me to do.”

When asked if he was running for president, he insisted that he’s running for re-election in the Senate.

Cruz also talked about the recent news about the Chinese spy balloon. Like his fellow lawmakers, he praised President Joe Biden for ordering the military to shoot it down, but questioned why it took so long to do so. He surmised that “the only reason” the order was made was because “it made it into the news.”

Why is it the crazies and the “Trump” type republicans Green, Boebert, Yahoo from New York, Lake, and others like Cruz in Texas? Those who lie in public and tell the most outrageous stories we all with ” common sense” know to be just plain crazy are still so popular with the republicans. Speaking of Republicans why do so many of them think it is OK to lie, cheat tell crazy stories? Is it because the repubs seem to like the idea of making the US just another country controlled by the rich and the crazy politicians that do the rich’s bidding? We saw them decide that woman can’t make decisions about the life they want to live, Now I read where anyone can go armed. I saw where a judge thinks that stopping people with domestic violence history should be allowed to go armed. Voting should be controlled with armed people at voting sites, people who can’t get to the polls are not allowed to mail a vote in. Trump led the charge to make himself a dictator now pay attention to who aligns with him. This is only my opinion and last I looked I can still do that regardless of who dislikes what I have said. Regardless of the fact I served with the idea that freedom of speech was one of the reasons, regardless that people who heard Green say stupid things that are not true still voted her in to office (which again is the right of Americans regardless how dumb). Wakey wakey folks.

I agree with all you said but I’d replace all the conservative names you listed with liberal ones like Schiff, Waters, AOC, Omar, et al plus substitute Biden for Trump and yeah all a bunch of crazies…

The two term policy has not passed, so he is still legally able to run! This policy has been up before and has not succeeded and may not again. Nothing to actually fight about here, so go take a Valium you obviously need.
