Clear Facts

  • Michael Cohen, former attorney for Donald Trump, is being accused of dishonesty regarding an October 2016 telephone call in relation to a payment to Stormy Daniels.
  • Trump’s defense lawyer, Todd Blanche, is suggesting that the phone call was not about the alleged payment, but rather about Cohen reporting harassing calls from a young prankster to Trump’s bodyguard, Keith Schiller.
  • The call lasted less than two minutes and took place between two text messages to Schiller regarding the harassments. Cohen insisted he could have discussed both the harasser and Daniels during the call.

In a recent development, former President Donald Trump’s defense team has accused his former attorney, Michael Cohen, of lying. The matter in question is a telephone call made in October 2016, reportedly in connection with a payment to Stormy Daniels.

During the cross-examination of Cohen in Trump’s business records trial, defense attorney Todd Blanche questioned him about the call. This particular call took place shortly after 8:00 p.m. on an autumn evening. It was directed at Trump’s bodyguard, Keith Schiller.

Cohen claimed he spoke to Trump on the call about a payment to Daniels. Blanche, however, suggested he contacted Schiller about harassing calls from a teenage prankster.

Blanche asserted that it was ridiculous to believe that Cohen might have reported a prankster to Keith Schiller while also discussing the hush-money payment with Trump.

“Justice Merchan: We can do that.
Prosecutor: It has numbers on it.
Blanche: Not to the courtroom… At 8:14 pm you texted Keith Schiller the number that had been harassing you.
Cohen: Yes.”

Reports indicate that the call lasted less than two minutes. More specifics of the conversation suggest that Cohen had been receiving harassing calls for three days and finally the harasser forgot to block their number.

Cohen texted the number, stating he would be turning it over to the Secret Service. He said he learned, or was told, that it was a 14 year-old. And then he texted Keith Schiller, asking him to act on it.

The call came between two text messages to Schiller from Cohen regarding the harassing calls. Cohen then called Schiller at 8:02.

“Blanche: You did not talk to President Trump on that night. You talked to Keith Schiller.
Blanche: Now you’re saying you’re not certain it was accurate?
Cohen: I believe that I also spoke to Mr. Trump.”

Blanche accused Cohen of lying about his memory of the harassing phone calls and the alleged discussion about Stormy Daniels.

“You lied about this. You said you didn’t remember the harassing phone calls – now you claim that in the one minute and 36 seconds call you spoke about the harasser and Stormy Daniels,” Blanche said.

Blanche pressed on, questioning Cohen’s honesty.

“Blanche: You are lying.
Cohen: Based on the records I think I spoke about both.
Blanche: We are not asking for your belief. This jury does not want to hear about what you think happened
Prosecutor: Objection!
Justice Merchan: Sustained.”

During the cross-examination, Cohen defended his position, insisting that he could have spoken about both matters during that brief call.

Cohen is clearly lying. But the final arbiter if this fact will be the NY jury. We shall see.

I don’t care if you love Trump or hate him, anyone with a thimble for a brain has to realize that this is the most unjust trial in the history of our country. Any jury member with a conscience will throw this case out. I don’t know if Trump is innocent of everything charged, but most are beyond the statute of limitations and the others are civil charges, not Federal. The DOJ refused to try him on this, but that a@hole AG and Judge declared him guilty before the trial began.

Does Todd Blanche have a pony in the race? To say Cohen is lying is much like coming into a room with siblings fighting. Who started the fight? Whic of the two has more to gain by the lie?
