John Bolton says Trump wouldn’t stop Putin’s invasion of Ukraine if he was US president

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Trump would not have stood in Putin’s way if Russia had invaded Ukraine when he was in office, according to former national security advisor John Bolton.
  • Bolton also said that the former president had little understanding of “what the stakes were” in Ukraine.
  • Bolton added that Trump’s praise for Putin is “embarrassing.”

Former national security advisor John Bolton said former President Donald Trump would not have stood in Putin’s way if a Russian invasion of Ukraine had happened when he was president.

“Well, I’m not sure he would have done much of anything, frankly,” Bolton replied when he was asked during an interview with Vice published March 1.

“But you never know with Trump. It depends on what time of day it is, it depends on what he thought his political benefit would be at any given moment. I don’t think ultimately he would have stood in Putin’s way,” Bolton told Vice.

Bolton said he thought Trump’s glorification of Putin was “embarrassing for the United States.” He also said that he did not think that Trump cared about Ukraine in the first place.

“It’s hard for me to describe how little he knows,” Bolton said in the interview with Vice.

“When you’re operating on such a poor understanding of the circumstances you’re talking about, ultimately, your opinions have to be totally unsound,” Bolton added. “And ultimately reality triumphs, and these opinions are seen for the flimsy and twisted thoughts that they really are.”

In the same interview, Bolton criticized Trump for his lack of understanding of “what the stakes were in Ukraine.”

“He once asked (then-White House Chief of Staff) John Kelly if Finland was part of Russia. What he cared about was the DNC server, and Hunter Biden, and the 2016 election, and the 2020 election,” Bolton said.

Bolton said in an interview on Newsmax this week, that Trump “barely knew where Ukraine was,” pushing back on Newsmax host Rob Schmitt’s assertion that Trump, as president, would have handled Russia better than Biden.

Trump has slammed the Biden administration, claiming it was their “stupidity” and “incompetence” that led to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He also baselessly claimed the crisis would never have unfolded if he had been president.

Trump was impeached in 2019 for withholding nearly $400 million in vital military aid from Ukraine. While in office, Trump also repeatedly bashed NATO and raised the possibility of the US leaving the alliance.

John Bolton is a “gutless wonder “ who has never served in the US military – let alone in combat, but he is always ready to push for military action at the “drop of hat” ‼️It appears he subconsciously is trying to compensate for his total lack of testosterone production. If the United States had had fewer people like him who were always willing to support committing US troops instead of the use of diplomacy it would not have spent over 20 years in the Middle East or gotten involved in Vietnam. Hawks like Bolton
are the true reason thousands of American lives have been loss in these NON-PRODUCTIVE wars and not to mention TRILLIONS being added to the US National Debt‼️ One only needs to imagine if the $$$
wasted looking under 1/2of the rocks in Iraq seeking Weapons of Mass Destruction and the other pointless military actions had been spent on US infrastructure how much better off the nation would be. PRESIDENT TRUMP has Bolton’s number.‼️‼️‼️‼️

I agree with Bolton. If Trump were president, Putin would have not invaded the Ukraine. That’s an assumption. No one knows what Putin would have done if Trump were president. Putin is certainly not shaking in his boots over mentally challenged Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe. i doubt Putin is going to lose any sleep over Trump. Voters need to stop being mesmerized by Trump. Trump is not a one size fits all. There are just as many capable Republicans as Trump. Putin knew Corrupt Quid Pro and NATO wouldn’t challenge Russia over the Ukraine. They watch from the sidelines as the Russian Army commits war atrocities against Ukraine civilians. The difference between Trump and Corrupt Quid Pro. If Putin would have invaded the Ukraine, and Putin would probably would have invaded the Ukraine Trump wouldn’t be sitting on the sidelines.

If Mr Trump were in office at least we wouldn’t be funding the killing (gas and oil) and we wouldn’t be killing the working class in our own country with 5 dollars plus a gallon for gas.
