WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi believes that Democrats can still maintain control of the House and Senate amid grim midterm predictions for her party.
  • Pelosi advised Democrats to “change that subject” when it comes to the economy and inflation.
  • She said that instead of talking about inflation, Democrats should talk about how their party helped ease the cost of living.

Democrats appear to be facing grim midterm election results, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) remains optimistic. She offered some advice to her fellow Democrats in alleviating voters’ concerns about the economy and inflation: “change that subject.”

During CBS“Face the Nation,” host Margaret Brennan cited a CBS poll that predicts the Republicans winning a House majority with 224 seats. She asked Pelosi if her party has a plan in motion to shift the momentum with about two weeks left until the midterms.

Despite the predictions, Pelosi said that she’s “very pleased” with the early voting turnout and that her party is still “confident” about a favorable midterm outcome. Still, she acknowledged that inflation has impacted the perception of voters, so she advised fellow Democrats on how to “inspire” more Democrat voters.

“It’s about getting out the vote,” she stated. “Everything else is a conversation compared to that. But in order to do that, you have to have inspiration. You can’t run on empty.”

Pelosi continued, “The fact is that when I hear people talk about inflation … we have to change that subject. Inflation is a global phenomenon. The European Union, the U.K., the British have higher inflation rates than we do here. The fight is not about inflation. It’s about the cost of living.”

She said that her party has helped “lower the cost of living” through legislation that reduces prescription drug and energy costs.

Pelosi pointed out, “If you look at what we have done to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, to bring down the cost of energy and the rest in our legislation, you will see that it has been opposed every step of the way by the Republicans, and they have no plan for lowering the cost of living or helping with inflation.”

Other polls from the New York Times and Associated Press also showed the Republicans winning big in the upcoming elections. The top issues on the ballot appeared to be the economy and inflation, with voters counting on Republicans to handle those issues more than Democrats.

Last week, Pelosi also dismissed these polls in an interview with Punchbowl News. She made a similar statement about inflation being a “global” issue and some countries having it much worse than the United States.

Pelosi stated at the time, “We’ll have to message it better in the next three weeks ahead. I think we’re in great shape. Other people don’t want to believe that.”

Democrats and the MSM are experts at changing the subject. One example (among hundreds) was / is Obamacare. Dozens of times, Barack promised,”If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your healthcare plan. Period.”
When he signed Obamacare, it was obvious he lied. Dems and the MSM refused to confront the lie and the disastrous consequences for families. They pivoted to gushing about the wonders of Obamacare.
OF course, those were stories akin to proclaiming the Titanic was a success because “people arrived in New York.” No mention that the ship sank, more than half the people died, etc etc
