Recent revelations have brought to light photographs showing President Joe Biden, during his tenure as vice president, interacting with Hunter Biden’s Chinese business associates. These images, obtained by America First Legal through legal action against the National Archives and Records Administration, depict Biden alongside notable figures such as Chinese President Xi Jinping and then-Vice President Li Yuanchao.
The photos also include Joe Biden posing with Jonathan Li and Ming Xue from BHR Partners, a Chinese private equity firm. America First Legal emphasized the significance of these images, stating they “shed light on the connections between then-Vice President Biden, Hunter and his Chinese business associates, and Chinese government officials including President Xi Jinping.”
The release of these images has intensified the debate over President Biden’s repeated assertions that he “never” discussed business matters with his son. This claim has been challenged by the House Oversight Committee’s findings, which suggest that Hunter Biden facilitated meetings between his father and BHR executives during a 2013 trip to China. America First Legal noted that during this trip, “Mr. Li sought— and received — access to Vice President Biden’s political power.”
Hunter Biden himself acknowledged introducing his father to Jonathan Li during a hotel encounter, stating, “In that line, I introduced my dad to Jonathan Li and a friend of his, and they shook hands and I believe probably took a photograph.” However, he maintained that he did not inform his father about Li’s identity.
Despite these interactions, Joe Biden has consistently denied any involvement in his son’s business dealings. On the campaign trail in 2019, he stated, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.” Yet, emails involving Hunter Biden have cast doubt on this claim, including a 2017 email requesting keys for Joe and Jill Biden for a shared space with a Chinese energy company emissary.
