Clear Facts:

  • An altercation at Florida’s Glenview Country Club resulted in the death of 87-year-old Dean William Zook. Robert Edward Moore Jr., 76, mistakenly believed Zook had struck his car and allegedly assaulted him.
  • Surveillance footage and a seven-month-old photo of Moore Jr. celebrating a hole-in-one — where he was wearing the same attire as during the incident — were instrumental in identifying and arresting him. Moore Jr. was later released on a $30,000 bond.
  • Zook’s family remembers him as a passionate golfer and a “kind-hearted gentleman.” His death occurred just one day shy of his 88th birthday, and medical professionals attributed it to trauma from the assault.

In a startling incident, a disagreement following a minor traffic mishap at Florida’s Glenview Country Club culminated in the death of an 87-year-old man.

Robert Edward Moore Jr., 76, is now facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of an elderly person after allegedly assaulting Dean William Zook over a car mishap.

The saga began when Moore Jr. mistakenly believed Zook had struck his car at the club’s parking lot. As per the incident report, Zook was approached by an individual who exclaimed, “What the hell, you hit my car!”

Following this, Zook admitted to hitting a vehicle and sought to exchange insurance details. However, events took a dark turn when the individual assaulted Zook, allegedly landing a series of punches.

According to eyewitness accounts, the severity of the assault was intensified by Moore Jr.’s considerable stature; standing at 6-foot-2-inch and weighing 220 pounds.

The aggression ceased when Moore Jr. came to the realization that the damaged car wasn’t his.

Zook, an avid golfer with a long-standing passion for the game, sadly died less than three weeks after the altercation, a mere day shy of his 88th birthday.

Medical professionals attributed Zook’s demise to the trauma induced by the assault.

To identify the assailant, law enforcement leaned heavily on surveillance footage from the country club.

A key lead was an older photo of Moore Jr. celebrating a hole-in-one; he was wearing the same attire on both the day of the celebration and the incident.

This photograph, which was published months prior, played a pivotal role in pinpointing Moore Jr. as the main suspect.

When taken into custody, Moore Jr. purportedly expressed his belief that Zook was attempting to leave the scene.

He also acknowledged recognizing Zook as an older, seemingly fragile individual, but claimed he was unaware of Zook being 87.

Despite the tragic events, Moore Jr. was released on a $30,000 bond. However, the investigation remains ongoing, with a recent subpoena issued for records relating to Zook’s injuries.

Paying tribute to Zook, his grieving family memorialized him as a “kind-hearted gentleman who brightened their lives.”

Zook’s fervor for golf was evident throughout his life.

His family fondly recalled the countless hours he spent on the golf course and the bonds he nurtured with fellow players.

His tragic demise has left a void, but his legacy, marked by his genial nature, passion for golf, and indelible memories, will endure.
