Trump Denounces NY Trial as Dangerous Day for America

Clear Facts

  • Former President Trump characterized the day of closing arguments in the NY v. Trump case as a “very dangerous day for America”, referring to the trial as a “sham” and attributing it to political scheming by President Biden.
  • Trump has been accused of falsifying business records to hide a payment to Stormy Daniels, a former porn star, prior to the 2016 election in order to silence her claims of an alleged affair, allegations which Trump has consistently denied.
  • The defense team of the former President sought a dismissal of the case, questioning the trustworthiness of the prosecution’s main witness, Michael Cohen, and maintaining the absence of any fraudulent business filings linked to Trump.

Tuesday was a critical day in the NY v. Trump trial, as ex-President Trump addressed the media prior to entering the Manhattan courtroom. Trump underscored the severity of the situation, declaring, “This is a very dangerous day for America. It’s a very sad day.”

In his statements, Trump pointedly attributed the trial to President Biden’s administration. “Make no mistake about it, I’m here because of crooked Joe Biden. The worst president in the history of our country, he’s destroying our country,” said Trump.

He proceeded to enumerate several areas where he believes Biden’s administration is failing, including border control, energy policy, inflation control, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, among others. Trump also accused Biden of “weaponization” and insisted that the trial was purely political.

Accompanying Trump in the courtroom were his children Tiffany, Eric, and Don Jr. The former president has continually referred to the trial as a “sham”, implying it’s a politically motivated attempt by the Biden administration to thwart his potential 2024 election bid.

Central to this trial is the accusation that Trump falsified business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The payment was reportedly to silence Daniels’ allegations of an affair with Trump in 2006, an affair that Trump has persistently denied.

Overseeing the trial, Judge Juan Merchan expected closing arguments to extend into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Merchan also prepared for his instruction to the jury, which he presumed to last approximately an hour.

The defense team of Trump, led by lawyer Todd Blanche, moved for a dismissal of the case, partially based on the suspect testimony of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

Blanche disputed the evidence put forth by the prosecution, firmly asserting last week that there were “absolutely no false business filings” and no evidence connecting them to Trump.

“How on Earth is keeping a false story from voters criminal?” Blanche queried.

Blanche also cast doubts on the reliability of Michael Cohen’s testimony, remarking, “There is no way the court should let this case go to the jury with Mr. Cohen’s testimony.”

Cohen had previously admitted to paying Daniels $130,000 from a home equity line of credit, a fact he confessed to concealing from his wife. He also confessed to stealing thousands of dollars from the Trump Organization.

His alleged theft involved exaggerating the amount he paid to a tech company, Red Finch, for services provided to the Trump Organization. Cohen claimed to have told former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg that he needed reimbursement for both the payment to Daniels and the $50,000 to Red Finch.

Blanche directly asked Cohen, “You stole from the Trump Org, right?”

In addition, Trump announced plans for an election expert, former FEC Commissioner Bradley Smith, to testify last week and affirm that “everything was perfect.” However, Judge Merchan restricted Smith’s testimony strictly to the basic definitions concerning election law.

Unfazed, Trump remained adamant, asserting on Tuesday, “And we had a lot of other people. I can give you a list of 40 people that would say the exact same thing as these people said.” Prior to entering the court, Trump reemphasized, it is a “dangerous day for America.”

Our country is in the worst shape I have ever seen! Biden is involved in all these witch hunts! Of course he is not capable to pull all these strings
but has the DOJ, FBI, and CIA to do his dirty work. Look at all his years in Senate ,house, president not one bill passed by him! Hopefully the American people will wake up and reelect Donald Trump! With Biden, communism is just around the corner. Dumb down the people and that is what you get! Great job Biden, of course he has no idea of what is going on!! His handlers are doing his dirty work!!
