Fatal police shooting of double amputee suspect sparks outrage [Video]

Outrage sparks after a double amputee stabbing suspect was shot and killed in California by police officers. Activists demanded justice and accountability for the fatal shooting of Anthony Lowe Jr.
Early this week, the Coalition for Community Control Over the Police and Lowe’s family held a news conference outside the Huntington Park Police Department to bring awareness to his death.
Lowe’s cousin, Ellakenyada Gorum, said “it’s sad how these police are getting away with killing our African American people. Just getting away with it. He was in a wheelchair. What more could he do?”
Lowe’s mother, Dorothy Lowe, accused the cops of murdering her “son, in a wheelchair with no legs. They do need to do something about it.”
Lowe’s sister Yatoya Toy told the LA Times that his legs were amputated at the knees “after an altercation with law enforcement in Texas, and that the family also has questions about that incident.”
A family spokesperson said Lowe, a Black man, was undergoing a mental health crisis when he was killed last week.
According to the police, they received a call that a man was stabbed by another man in a wheelchair. Officers found Lowe at the scene armed with a 12-inch butcher knife.
Video footage taken by a passerby shared on Twitter shows Lowe out of his wheelchair, hobbling away on the ground from police using his arms to propel himself.
In a statement, officers said Lowe was tased twice at that point, but it was “ineffective.”
“The suspect continued to threaten officers with the butcher knife, resulting in an officer-involved shooting,” the statement said.
Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Lowe’s family insisted the 36-year-old father-of-two couldn’t have been a threat because he was in a wheelchair, and they demand more answers from the police department.
“We want justice for our whole family,” said Lowe’s sister, Yatoya Toy.
There’s no report yet if there’s any police bodycam or dashcam video of the shooting. A nearby business has provided authorities with security footage of the fatal shooting. Law enforcement hasn’t shared or released the video as of this writing.
The involved officers, who were not identified, were placed on paid administrative leave.
Lowe’s death comes weeks after another Black man, Tyre Nichols, died three days after a violent arrest by police on January 7. All five officers involved were charged with murder.

Looks like justice WAS served. Lowe already stabbed one man with his butcher knife and was threatening police officers with it while refusing to obey their commands to drop the knife. They tried to taser him but it was ineffective. He was just as much a threat to the police as a man with 2 legs so he got shot by the police. Justifiable shooting. When will their culture learn to obey police commands to stop, to drop their weapon, to act civilized instead of blaming others for their own misdeeds and criminal actions. He got what he deserved!

GOD KILLED, God had His Anointed Kill. What the law was then was an EYE for an eye. Jesus came to show forgiveness,not stupidity and IF, cause I wasnt there nor were you: If the Amputee did stab some one as was going to throw a 12IN Blade, he deserved what he got, He wasnt Murdered, he received the SIWING and REAPING of his actions.
We are TO Forgive not be stupid. Had the amputee not stabbed some one the cops wouldnt have wanted him to surrender.
Its gross and sad but Mental Illness comes with a Lot of people today with Drugs, PTSD and just simple hate.

What are you talking about. He could have killed the man he stabbed with the knife and could have injured or killed one of the police. Do you think he wasn”t trying to kill the person he stabbed? He refused to drop the knife and give up to the police so they had no choice. Their job is to protect the people they serve, and that’s what they were doing.

The only way that could be justified is if he was shot in the process that of throwing the knife… If he was shot in the process to commit great bodily harm it was self defence.
If the act of the action was complete before he was shot it was not self defence !
