Major Actress Files For Divorce, Marking the End of Couples Second Attempt At Relationship
Clear Facts
- Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, as confirmed by multiple US media outlets.
- This marks the end of the couple’s second attempt at their relationship, having initially dated in the early 2000s before reuniting two decades later.
- They had a lavish wedding in 2022 and bought a $60 million home together last year, but rumors of marital troubles began circulating earlier this year.
Jennifer Lopez, the pop singer turned actress, has lodged a divorce proceeding against her husband, Oscar-winning movie star and director Ben Affleck. This news emerged on Tuesday.
The celebrity pair, affectionately known as “Bennifer” by their fans, first dated during the frenzied celebrity period of the early 2000s before reigniting the flame of their relationship almost twenty years later.
However, this second trial seems to have reached a dead end as Lopez submitted divorce papers in a Los Angeles court. Both their representatives have remained quiet on the matter, with Lopez’s representative declining to comment and Affleck’s publicist not responding to requests for comments.
This marks the end of Lopez’s fourth marital journey and Affleck’s second. They initially met in 2002 on the set of the less-than-successful movie “Gigli.”
Their relationship, culminating in an engagement, had caused a media frenzy. The couple, however, postponed their planned 2003 wedding and announced their separation in 2004.
“Bennifer,” as they were known, flooded the internet with excitement in 2021 when images of their reunion started circulating. “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance,” Lopez commented in an interview around that time.
In April 2022, the couple announced their engagement again and tied the knot in Las Vegas in July. The following month they held a lavish ceremony at the “Good Will Hunting” star’s 87-acre estate in Georgia.
Among the high-profile attendees were long-time friend Matt Damon and director Kevin Smith. The couple also purchased a $60 million home together in Los Angeles in the same year.
Earlier this year, however, rumors of their marital issues started to surface in the entertainment press and on social media. Speculations heightened when Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday without Affleck, and it was reported that they had sold their joint home.
An unnamed source quoted by a leading magazine pointed towards their contrasting approaches to fame as a potential source of conflict. “She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world,” the source said. “He is more introspective and private. This has been a difficult day-to-day.”
The couple’s date of separation, as stated in the divorce papers, was listed as April 26, 2024. It was also mentioned that the pair are no longer on speaking terms.
Previously, Lopez was married to actor Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony. She shares twins Max and Emme with Anthony. On the other hand, Affleck was once married to actress Jennifer Garner, and they have three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
