WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • YouTube has suspended President Donald Trump’s channel from uploading new video content for at least seven days and took out the president’s latest uploaded video.
  • The online video platform argued that Trump’s recent upload violated its policy and could stir more violence.
  • The House passed a resolution calling Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

Following other social media’s action on barring President Donald Trump’s accounts, YouTube has suspended the president’s channel for at least a week before President-elect Joe Biden officially takes oath.

The google-subsidiary said that Trump’s recently uploaded video violated its policy and could spark more rage.

“After review, and in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence, we removed new content uploaded to Donald J. Trump’s channel for violating our policies. It now has its 1st strike & is temporarily prevented from uploading new content for a *minimum* of 7 days,” YouTube’s statement posted on Twitter.

The platform also said that it disabled the comments of the president’s video channel, attaching a link that would direct the clicker to YouTube’s policy.

“Given the ongoing concerns about violence, we will also be indefinitely disabling comments on President Trump’s channel, as we’ve done to other channels where there are safety concerns found in the comments section,” the statement wrote.

Democrats and some GOP legislators have blamed Trump for urging his supporters to march at the Capitol that resulted in a siege last Wednesday.

In a statement, Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney (WY.) said that Trump had “summoned this mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing.”

“There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,” she added, noting that she would vote in favor of Trump’s impeachment.

On Tuesday, Trump excused himself from being accountable for Wednesday’s Capitol chaos that ended in five deaths including one police officer.

Later in the evening, the Democrat-dominated House, in a 223 to 205 vote, passed a resolution that calls Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment.

Pence previously said in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CALIF.) that he won’t do it. “Under our Constitution, the 25th Amendment is not a means of punishment or usurpation,” he said, adding that enforcing it would “set a terrible precedent.”

There were also calls to impeach Trump for the second time, as several GOP legislators showed support to remove the president from the White House.
